Shut Your %#$*ing Mouth Unless You Are Actually Voting in November!!!

After last night's Presidential Debate most of us have probably written off a half dozen friends and gotten in a Facebook argument or two because of our disagreements on politics in general and who should be the next President. Here at Hip In Detroit, we aren't going to tell you who to vote for, we just want to make sure you actually go out and vote!!!

Every election I am amazed at how many of my friends don't vote, especially when it comes to the big elections. (Although many of the smaller ones are just as important if not more important to your everyday life...But, that's a whole other can of worms that I'm not going to get into right now.) Almost everyone I know feels the need to give their opinion on a daily basis on an infinite number of topics. Why is it that when it comes time for them to actually take a stand and give their opinion and have someone listen to it, they suddenly don't want to?

Voting is free, it's rather effortless and it only takes a few minutes of your time. Yeah, we've all heard it a million times..."My vote doesn't matter anyways!" Quit your whining! If none of us go out to vote, then what? We're just going to go to a Dictatorship? Or maybe a Monarchy would be better? Seriously... what else do you have to do all day on a Tuesday? The polls open early and are open until 8 p.m. So even those of you reading this that don't wake up until 4 p.m. on a normal day, you still will have plenty of time to make it to the polls.

For those of you that vote for a third party and think that your vote doesn't matter for that reason, I have 3 things to say to you. 1) How will a third party ever have a chance if people like you don't keep at it? 2) There are plenty of other issues on the ballot that have nothing to do with being a Republican or Democrat. 3) Ross Perot. Enough said. That dude was awesome.

Even if you don't give a rats ass about politics at all, there is still a reason for you to go out and vote on November 6th. At the top of the list is all of the free shit you will get. Nail files, rulers, mints... if you're lucky you might even get the LifeSavers mints. You can never tell if it will be Pep-O-Mint or Wint-O-Green, but both are a delightful surprise.

So, what's the point of this rant? The point is that you should all go out and vote on November 6th. More importantly, if you are not already registered to vote, you need to do it NOW! The deadline to register to vote in Michigan and still vote this November is October 9th. That's this Tuesday!!! Unfortunately, you aren't able to register to vote online in Michigan (which seems ridiculous), but there are plenty of places that you can register, including any Secretary of State or your City, County or Township Clerk's Office. OR you can simply print out this form, fill it out and mail it to your City, Township or County Clerk.

Please, take the time to register and take the time to go out and vote next month. We think all of our readers are wonderful, intelligent people that are doing great things and have great ideas. You all deserve to have your voices heard. Government effects all of our lives more that we would like to think. It's worth it to take a few minutes to register and a few minutes to go out and vote.
