Michigan and Trumbull is Moving to a Bigger Space: Visit the OG Before Its' Gone!

If you're a pizza lover in Detroit, you've undoubtedly heard of Michigan & Trumbull Pizza. This pizzeria has become a local favorite for its unique pies that blend traditional Detroit-style pizza with inventive toppings and creative combinations.

Michigan & Trumbull Pizza has a fascinating history, as it started out as a pop-up restaurant before becoming a brick-and-mortar location in the historic Corktown neighborhood.

One of the things that sets Michigan & Trumbull apart is their commitment to using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. They make their own dough in-house and use toppings like locally made sausage and fresh produce from Michigan farms.
Michigan & Trumbull's owners Kristen Calverley and Nate Peck recently announced that they will be moving to a larger space this summer. The new space will feature more seating and a larger kitchen, which means they can make more pizzas and invite more visitors to dine in.

If you haven't tried Michigan & Trumbull Pizza yet, be sure to check them out before they move! Their current location at 1441 W. Elizabeth St. is open Wednesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. You can also follow them on Instagram at @michiganandtrumbull or on Facebook at Michigan & Trumbull.

What's the difference between Ima and Ima Izakaya?

Ima has been one of our favorite places to eat since they opened their first location in Corktown in 2016. Since then. they have expanded into Midtown Detroit and Madison Heights (the burbs). They are legitimately our favorite place to order to-go from because they separate the food and the broth so nothing extra hot is in plastic which means it tastes almost as good at my house as it does when I sit down at one of their restaurants.

They recently switched things up a bit by moving their Corktown location across the street to take over the old Gold Cash Gold building and gave this space a special name: Ima Izakaya. We weren't sure what that meant so we looked it up. "An izakaya is a type of informal Japanese bar that serves alcoholic drinks and snacks. Izakaya are casual places for after-work drinking, similar to a pub, a Spanish tapas bar, or an American saloon or tavern."  In this case, Ima Izakaya is Ima + more!  This includes small plates, a robata grill, sushi, a HUGE drink menu, and much much more! It's everything you already loved about Ima plus more in an even more beautiful setting.

Ima Izakaya is located at 2100 Michigan Ave Detroit. They are currently open 11 am - 10 pm Monday - Friday, 11 am - 11 pm on Saturdays, and 12 pm - 10 pm on Sundays. You can make reservations to visit here. This is one of the most solid spots in Detroit and it is very vegan-friendly!

Head over to our IG for a reel showing you inside the new spot!

Visit The Redford Theatre - Detroit's 95 Year Old Movie House

In the 1920s, movie going was more than just a night out, it was an experience. Movie theaters were called movie palaces with elaborate design and décor. Silent films were often accompanied by live music. And feature films as well as films with sound were new to the scene.
This is an experience that can still be found today at the Redford Theatre. First opening its doors in 1928, the Redford Theatre is celebrating its 95th anniversary this year. The theatre features an elegant lobby, balcony and main floor seating, Japanese inspired décor, and a ceiling that makes you feel as though you are under the night sky. Adding to the ambiance is a Barton organ, which is played before every movie as well as at intermission. This organ is original to the theatre and much of the reason that this theatre still exists today, thanks to the Motor City Theatre Organ Society

Nowadays, movie goers can visit the Redford Theatre most weekends throughout the year. The theatre shows classic films ranging from the 1920s through the 1990s. Some of the movies shown include blockbuster hits, while others have more of a cult following. In celebration of the theatres 95th anniversary, some of the films on this year's schedule include Vertigo, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and The Notebook. The schedule also includes many silent films with accompaniment from the Barton organ throughout the film. You can check out the schedule online here. In addition to weekend screenings, the theatre also holds special engagements from time to time. The next one on the books is a viewing of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan with Special Guest William Shatner

Most nights, tickets to the Redford Theatre are $5, with special engagements having a higher ticket price. The theatre also features a great concession stand ran by volunteers, with your favorite nostalgic candy, popcorn, and pop, all at very reasonable prices. You can also pick up a t-shirt to commemorate your visit in the lobby and get in on the 50/50 raffle, with proceeds going towards the maintenance, repairs, and operations of the theatre.

We promise you that a visit to the Redford Theatre will be a magical experience and your new favorite way to watch a movie!

The Redford Theatre is located at 17360 Lahser Rd., Detroit, MI 48219. Follow the theatre on Facebook to stay in the loop on upcoming showings and events.

Take a Pizza Making Class at Pizza Plex

Making pizza is an art. You have to have the right ingredients, the right technique, and the right temperature to get the perfect pie. Most people are disappointed when they try to make their own pizza at home, but you don't have to be. Pizza Plex has created a new weekly class called PizzaYOLO where you can learn the art of pizza from the best.

Pizza Plex wants to teach you "how to get that beautifully char-freckled crust and the perfect ratio of cheese saturation and light-airy dough". They will also send you home with your first ball of dough to get cooking. Each Thursday evening class is taught by Kale Eineichner, who is well-versed in the art of  Vera Pizza Napoletana. Over three hours, each attendee will get the opportunity to taste some Campania wines and spin some pizzas, this is a very hands-on class. You will also get to enjoy the pizzas that you make.

Tickets to attend a class are $115 a person and can be purchased here. Please note there are multiple dates as this class takes place every Thursday. You can learn more about Pizza Plex including their new 2023 hours here.

Skate Away Your Sunday Scaries

The more our lives center around technology, the more we find ourselves trying to do things to disconnect. One of our favorite things to do is to go skating at Skate World of Troy on Sunday nights. Why Sundays? It's adult night!

This means a few things. First of all, it means there is no one there under 18 years old., which hopefully means there is a lot less of a chance that someone is going to skate into you. This also means that the music is usually classic 80/90/2000's with some of today's hits occasionally thrown in throughout the night.

Adult Night also attracts an interesting group of people. From derby people practicing their steps to groups of Jam skaters, you never know who or what move you are going to see next. They even have couples skates and backward skates throughout the night.

The best part is that it's CHEAP to skate. It's only $9 a person on an adult night. You can bring your own skates (in good condition/not used on cement) or rent a pair of skates or rollerblades for $3 - $5. Sunday Night Adult skate run from 8 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. all year long. Nothing helps beat the Sunday scaries more than making the most of your entire weekend!

To learn more about skate world visit their website here.
