Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend - February 28th - March 2nd, 2025

Saturday,  March 1st - Prove It Fest @ Small's: The crew at Small's has always been so great about hosting benefit shows for fallen friends in Detroit's music community,  and sadly they're hosting another one this Saturday. Prove It Fest will bring together 10 bands to celebrate the life of Bob Gibson, who passed away suddenly this past fall. The bill includes St. Thomas Boys Academy, Sharkfist, Aggro or Die, The Boy Detective, The Blacklist, Dirty White & the High Life Social Club, Middle Out, Norco's y Horchata, plus acoustic sets from Fishi and Ryan Ladell. All proceeds will go to Bob’s widow and family. Cover is $20, doors open at 5 PM and the music starts at 6 PM. All ages are welcome. Make sure you bring some extra cash for the raffle too!

Friday, February 28th - Sunday, March 2nd - Oscar Nominated Shorts @ DIA Film Theatre: Get ready for the Oscars by checking out the Short Films that have been nominated, this weekend at the DIA. Every year, the DIA Film Theatre screens the Oscar Shorts, giving film enthusiasts a chance to see these pictures that they probably haven't had a chance to see before. Screenings will take place Friday and Saturday at 7 PM and Sunday at 1 PM. Tickets are $13 online and can be purchased here. 

Saturday, March 1st - Paczki Run: The Paczki Run will take over the streets of Hamtramck this Saturday morning! The streets begin closing at 8 AM for the annual 5K and the race begins at 10 AM. Once runners cross the finish line, they'll be awarded with a water and a Paczek. There will also be beer available for those 21+. Head down to Joseph Campau to watch the run, then head over to the Polka Tent to dance to music from Misty Blues!

Saturday, March 1st - Dilla Bowl @ The Garden Bowl: Head to the Garden Bowl this Saturday afternoon for the 4th Annual Dilla Bowl in honor of the late J Dilla. The event will take place from 2 PM - 6 PM, with free bowling for kids, a Dilla Art Gang Pop Up, DJ Los and DJ Bet, and a free pizza party (while supplies last). Dilla Bowl is part of this year's Dilla Fest, with events happening all weekend long. Get all the details here. 

Saturday, March 1st - Bar Fly Awards @ The Old Miami: The 4th Annual Bar Fly Awards will take place this Saturday night at The Old Miami. Think award show, but with your favorite bar flies, instead of pop stars or movie stars. The fun starts at 9 PM, 21+ are welcome, and cover is $5.

Saturday, February 15th - Black Hearts Ball @ Small's: Whether you're looking for love or just looking for a good time, don't miss the Black Hearts Ball at Small's this weekend! Resident DJs Elektrosonik and DJ Aaron Hingst, and special guest DJs Pinknoise and DJ Josh Burge will be spinning new wave, retro alternative, post-punk, goth + dark '80s and '90s all night this Saturday! There will also be complimentary appetizers and Valentine's Treats + late night pizza!! Cover is $7 for 21+ or $10 for 18-20. The party goes from 9 PM - 2 AM. 

Saturday, February 15th - Haute to Death: Haute to Death takes over Marble Bar this Saturday night for one of the best parties around! This month they will be joined by Detroit native Ash Lauryn for a special homecoming show. Tickets are $22.85 and can be purchased here. 21+ are welcome and the fun starts at 9 PM. 

Saturday, February 15th - The Pizazz @ Bowlero: Bowlero welcomes The Pizazz to their lounge this Saturday night! They'll be joined by Checker and DJ Ryan Patrick Hooper over in the lanes. As always, there's no cover. 18+ are welcome and the music starts at 9 PM. 

"One Night In Tokyo" Streaming Now: It's not often that we tell you to stay home, but it's also not often that a Detroiter has their feature film streaming on Amazon! If you happen to be staying in this weekend because of the snow or just because, check out "One Night In Tokyo"! The film was written and directed by Josh Woodcock who you may remember from bands like The Ill Itches. We can't wait to watch it and we hope you'll check it out too! Congratulations, Josh!

Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend - February 7th-9th, 2025

All Weekend Long @ Reware Vintage: Reware Vintage in Berkley is the place to be this weekend! They have fun stuff happening all weekend long, including two great shows and a fun Galentine's shopping event on Saturday. First up, Friday night Hillbilly Knife Fight will be playing at the shop, along with Permanently Pissed and Pedro Meadows. There will also be a cool hardcore t-shirt pop-up by Full of Soul Dry Goods. Doors open at 7 PM and they're asking for a suggested donation of $15 at the door. Then, on Saturday afternoon, swing by Reware and other great shops in Berkley (like Jodi Lynn Doodles Emporium) for a Galentine's Shop Hop. Between noon - 4 PM, select downtown Berkley shops will have specials, make-it take-its, and treats. Plus if you get a stamp at each of the participating shops, you'll be entered in a drawing for a goody basket. Last but not least, Saturday night there will be another great show in the shop, with Rose St. Germain, Loose Koozies, and Izak. Friday, February 7th - Devon Kay & The Solutions @ Small's: Devon Kay & The Solutions just kicked off their tour Thursday night in Chicago and Friday night they're making a stop in Hamtramck! The show will be at Small's and also includes Dollar Signs, Tiny Stills, and Clipboards. All ages are welcome to attend this one. Tickets are $20 and doors open at 7 PM.

Saturday, February 8th - Besties Party @ UFO Bar: Valentine's Day is almost here and love is in the air! Grab the one you love most, your bestie, and head to UFO Bar Saturday night for BESTIES presented by SIREN. The night will feature B2B sets from 8 great DJs. The lineup includes Auntie Chanel B2B Gallons, Sapphyre B2B STEPH WHO?, LIFA B2B DJ BABY, and MISSMAMAS B2B Amino. Cover is $10 in advance or $15 at the door. The party goes from 9 PM - 2 AM and matching outfits are encouraged! 

Saturday, February 8th and Sunday, February 9th @ Marble Bar: Whether you love Valentine's Day or can't wait to get it over with, Marble Bar has an event for you this weekend! On Saturday night, they'll be hosting an Anti-Valentine's Day Party. There will be music from DJ Psycho, Andrea Ghita, Mac Diesel, and Peter Guy. Plus, The Detroit Party Marching Band will be there! The party goes from 9 PM - 3 AM. Tickets are $21.70, get yours here. Then on Sunday, spend your afternoon or evening sipping, shopping, and more at A Love Bazaar. It's a Valentine's Day Market that will take place from 2 PM  - 8 PM. There will be vendors, food, and music. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.
