Willis Show Bar: A Historic Detroit Gem Celebrates 5 Year Anniversary with Live Performances

Are you looking for a unique and vibrant entertainment venue in Detroit? Look no further than Willis Show Bar, a historic bar located in the city's Cass Corridor. Not only is Willis Show Bar a classic cocktail bar, but it's also a live entertainment venue that's been revived from its 1949 "Show Bar" era.

Originally opened in 1949, Willis Show Bar quickly became a hot spot for jazz music lovers. It hosted some of the most renowned musicians of the time and provided a space for black artists to showcase their talent during a time when segregation was still prominent in the United States.

However, Willis Show Bar's popularity dwindled over the years, and it eventually closed its doors in 1978. But now, after an extensive renovation, this legendary bar has been restored to its former glory and re-opened its doors five years ago.

The Art Moderne style bar features a unique floor plan that captures the attention of every seat in the house. The main stage, which is still behind the bar, is the perfect setting for amazing live music, cabaret performers, DJs, and comedians. In addition, the classic cocktail menu pays homage to the bar's history, with drinks like the "Showgirl" and the "Willis Royale."

If you're looking for a truly unforgettable experience in Detroit, then Willis Show Bar is a must-visit destination.

And what better time to check it out than during the bar's 5-year anniversary party on May 4th? With performances by Willa Rae Adamo, Chris Kendall, Baddie Brooks, Drey Skonie, Kent Crawley, Mike Harrison, Tariq Gardner, Celin Amin, and the Dapper DJ, this is an event you won't want to miss.

Tickets are available for $15 in advance or $20 on the day of the show. Don't wait to get yours, as this event is sure to sell out quickly. Celebrate five years of Willis Show Bar and immerse yourself in the city's vibrant history and culture.

Discover the Rich History and Exceptional Cuisine of the Lager House in Detroit's Corktown

Photos from the Lager House

The Lager House in Corktown is one of those gems that we often forget about, but every time we visit, we are pleasantly surprised. This historic establishment has been around for over a century and has a rich history. Prior to being renamed The Lager House in 1965, it was known as the Doemer Beer Garden, Doemer Brothers Tavern, and The Doemer Tavern. During Prohibition, it masqueraded as a furniture store, but the minute the 21st Amendment repealed Prohibition was passed, it emerged as a beer garden.

One of the things that makes the Lager House stand out is their extensive vegan options. The vegan tofu scramble with potatoes and bread is one of our favorites, but they also have plenty of other options to choose from. And if you're not vegan, they have non-vegan options as well, so there's something for everyone.

Photos from the Lager House
Aside from their brunch options, the Lager House also serves lunch and dinner, and their menu has a little something for everyone. The prices are reasonable, and they even have drink specials like the beer mimosa or the beermosa, which are perfect for a weekend brunch.

But it's not just the food and drinks that make the Lager House worth a visit; it's also their exceptional service. The friendly staff will make you feel right at home, whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor.

Overall, if you're looking for a unique dining experience with great food and service, the Lager House should definitely be on your list. With its rich history, extensive vegan options, and drink specials, you won't be disappointed. Next time you're in Corktown, be sure to stop by and see what all the fuss is about!

Regina's Food Truck Takes Up Residence Inside Urbanrest Brewing in Downtown Ferndale

If you're a fan of authentic Mexican cuisine, you're going to want to check out Regina's Food Truck, now located inside Urbanrest Brewing in downtown Ferndale. Regina's is known for providing premier, authentic Mexican food to the people of Southeast Detroit, and their menu offers rich and flavorful dishes that will transport your taste buds straight to Mexico.

Tacos and taco bowls are the main offerings on Regina's menu, and they come in a variety of delicious flavors. But the real standout here is the hot sauce. Regina's has five different hot sauces, all of which are some of the best we've ever tasted. Some are spicy, and some are milder, but they're all incredibly delicious. We found ourselves dipping every bite in the sauce to get as much flavor as we could.

Ordering from Regina's is easy: just place your order online, and they'll call your name as soon as your food is ready. If you're looking to pair your meal with a drink, Urbanrest Brewing has got you covered. You can even top it all off with some ice cream.

Right now, Urbanrest Brewing and Regina's Food Truck are collaborating on a new ice cream flavor that comes with churros. It's the perfect way to end your meal on a sweet note.

Regina's Food Truck got its start providing catering for events all around Southeast Michigan. Regina herself grew up in Guadalajara, Jalisco, where she learned to love authentic Mexican dishes. She decided to share her passion with others by opening up her food truck at the age of 23, and she hasn't looked back since.

If you're in the downtown Ferndale area, you can find Regina's Food Truck at Urbanrest Brewing during the following hours:

  • Thursdays & Fridays 5-9 p.m.
  • Saturdays 3-9 p.m.
  • Sundays 12-5 p.m.

Don't miss out on the chance to try some of the best authentic Mexican food and hot sauce around. Head to Urbanrest Brewing and give Regina's Food Truck a try. Your taste buds will thank you.
