Hey Makers! It's Time to Apply for the Detroit Urban Craft Fair!

2021 group photo by Doug Coombe
(Yes, that is Sadie waving her arms in the back)

This is a call to all the makers that want to get their goods into local homes this holiday season. It's time to apply to the Detroit Urban Craft Fair! Every year, this highly curated event elevates its selection and offers something new to its shoppers. It is a truly one-of-a-kind weekend experience that you can only get in Detroit. That being said, a lot of people want to be a part of this event, so it's not as easy to get in as you might hope it would be. You have to apply (that part is easy in theory) and be approved for the show. How do you get approved? You COMPLETELY fill out every section of the application, no matter how boring or mundane. Then, take some time and really sell who you are, what you do, and how you think it would elevate this year's event. What are you going to have on your table, how will it be laid out, and why do you think people have to have this under their holiday trees?  The more creative you are in crafting your application, the more likely you are to be picked by the jury of people that will be making the selections. Around 120 makers will make it into this show and then they will start to announce all the cool things that they have cooked up for the show. So, if you want in, set aside some time, get creative with your words and photos, and apply to be a part of one of the most magical local events this December.

The Detroit Urban Craft Fair will take place on December 2nd ,3rd and 4th, 2022 at The Masonic Temple in Detroit. You can learn more about The Detroit Urban Craft Fair here and you can apply to be a part of this year's show here. Follow DUCF on social media to keep up with them all year long here.

J'adore Detroit X Roots to Rise Detroit Know Babes Want Rights

We have heard a lot of people saying they are angry and they want to do something, but they don't know what to do. The overturning of Roe v Wade is simply unacceptable. We firmly believe that every person who is able to give birth should have the right to handle their own medical choices with their doctors, PERIOD. We want to make sure that access to abortion stays legal and safe in Michigan and is codified into federal law as soon as possible. J'adore Detroit and Roots to Rise Detroit believe the same thing and have put together an event to help connect like-minded people and to help educate those of us that are feeling angry, lost, and unsure of what we can do to make a difference in our communities, our state, and ultimately on a federal level.

On July 12th, Babes Want Rights "will focus on providing our community with the information, resources, and support to take action and make informed choices toward protecting our fundamental rights and marginalized groups." The conversation will be led by a panel of professionals who specialize in various topics surrounding access to reproductive healthcare, this includes Dr. Brooke B. Buys, Ph.D., MSW, Bonsitu Kitaba, Deputy Legal Director - ACLU, and Dr. Audrey Lance, MD. They will discuss "information and actions surrounding the amendment and ballot and resources and information surrounding the current and the possible future of women's reproductive rights in Michigan". They also hope to "provide support, and coping tools, and create alliances through the community."

Doors open at 2:00 p.m. for mingling, cocktails, and snacks, and the panel discussion will run from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. J'adore Detroit is located at 2501 Russell St. KGsweets will be providing some cookies and Social Hour Cocktails will be providing some sips at the event. It is 100% free to attend, but you have to RSVP here so they can get an idea of how many seats to get out and how many snacks they need to have. This is a great place for people who are angry and want to take action to find a pathway and some people who also want to do the same thing.

Niagara is Having Her First Solo Art Show in 10 + Years

It's been over a decade since punk rock front women and artist Niagara has held a solo art show. Her femme fatale pop art is iconic and powerful. The woman she paints know who they are and what they want and aren't going to stop until they get it. COVID made her realize that what she wanted was to paint so she got to work and she painted like there was no tomorrow, because for a little while we all weren't sure if tomorrow was going to come.

Niagara will be opening her first solo gallery in a decade at Edo Gallery this Saturday, July 9th. The opening will feature Danny Kroha (Demolition Doll Rods and The Gories) and DJ Alr!ght spinning rock and exotic punk tunes with a special performance by Warren Defever (His Name Is Alive) at 9:30 p.m. There will also be a limited number of prints signed by the artist.  There will be indoor and outdoor spaces to explore and you can make a reservation to have a meal at EDO Ramen House to ensure that you have access to the limited edition print and the ability to see the show opening night.
