Friday, October 27th - The Hourlies, Jackson & The Poolsharks, The New Old @ The Lager House: Head to The Lager House for a great show this Friday night with Jackson & The Poolsharks, The Hourlies, and The New Old. Doors open at 8 p.m. and Jackson & The Poolsharks kicks things off at 9 p.m. $10 gets you in the door and all ages are welcome (18+ under must be accompanied by a parent).

Friday, October 27th - JMSN + Sam Austins @ Leland City Club: Two amazing Detroit artists will be playing a hometown show together this weekend! JMSN and Sam Austins will be performing live at Leland City Club along with Decliner and Hitech. Tickets start at $30 and can be purchased here. Hip in Detroit's Guide to Halloween 2023

Halloween is just a week away! We compiled a list of Halloween events happening around town so you don't miss out on all of the spooky fun festivities happening over the next week! 


Thursday, October 26th:
Painted Lady Pumpkin Carving Party: When's the last time you carved a pumpkin? Whether it was last week, last year, or 10 years ago, head to The Painted Lady to carve a pumpkin with your friends and favorite bartenders on Thursday night. John & Andrea will be there, scary movies will be on the TVs, and carving tools will be available for your use. The bar opens at 4 p.m.

Candlelight Concert @ The Redford Theatre: The Redford Theatre will be holding a special event this Thursday night, that's equal parts spooky and enchanting. Listen to some of your favorite Halloween songs, like "Thriller", the theme song from Psycho, the theme from Stranger Things, and many more spooky songs played by the Listeso String Quartet by candlelight. Tickets are $25-$54 and can be purchased here. There will be two concerts, one at 6 p.m. and one at 8:30 p.m.

The Slumber Party Massacre @ Outer Limits: Head to Outer Limits Lounge Thursday night for a night of horror with scary movies, fall themed drinks and snacks, and spooky tunes. $5 gets you in and will help Wild Shape put out their record. 

Historically Haunted Detroit Bus Tour: Take a bus ride to some of the most haunted spots in Detroit! This guided tour starts at The Detroit History Club and takes you to locations through the city, with tales of hauntings, murders, unexplained disappearances, and more. There are rides on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and even next weekend too. Get your tickets here

Friday, October 27th:

Punk'n Halloween @ The Lex: Head to The Lex this Friday night to see some cover bands of your favorite bands! The lineup includes Red Hot Chili Dogs as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Boost 182 as Blink 182, The Warped Tourists as Rancid, and Alluvial Friends as Unwound. 21+ are welcome and $10 gets you in the door. Costumes are encouraged. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the music starts at 8. 


Creepy Cheapy (Night 1) @ The Crofoot: Creepy Cheapy is one of the biggest and best Halloween parties around! For two nights, the event will take over The Crofoot complex, with the ultimate cover bands in each room, and crowds of costumed party goers bouncing between rooms. There are also costume contests, candy eating contests, dance parties, and lots of fun. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here. (Fair warning, this event always sells out!) Doors open at 7 p.m. and 18+ are welcome.

Hocus Pocus @ The Henry Ford: Hocus Pocus has become a Halloween staple! This Saturday night, you have a chance to see it on the big screen once again. In fact, it will be on the giant screen at The Henry Ford! There are also showings on Saturday and Sunday night, with a 7 p.m. showtime each night. Get your tickets here

WDET's Rock & Roll Horror Show: Show your support for WDET and have a great time at Cadieux Cafe this Friday night! The lineup for the night includes music from The Hentchmen and The 3-D Invisibles. The night will be hosted by DJ Jon Moshier! Tickets are $20 with proceeds benefiting WDET. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Spookie Nights @ Planet Ant: Think Boogie Nights, but Spookie Nights instead! This sketch comedy show is brought to you by the graduates of the Planet Ant Training Center. The show opened last weekend and you have two more chances to catch the show; Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

The Rocky Horror Show at The Motown Mansion: Opera Modo and Marche Du Nain Rouge bring you an immersive experience for The Rocky Horror Show this Friday and Saturday night. The show will take place inside The Motown Mansion in Boston Edison. Tickets are $45 and are available here

Warhorses and The Witches @ Bowlero: If you're just looking to get a little spooky and ease your way into Halloween weekend, head to Bowlero Friday night. They will have sets from Warhorses and The Witches along with DJ Udenjoe. 18+ are welcome and admission is free. Starts at 9 p.m.

Disco Queen Halloween: Head to Spot Lite Detroit dressed as your favorite disco queen this Friday night for their Disco Queen Halloween. The night will feature DJs Shaun J. Wright and TYLR, hosted by Purrrspective and ANTI. Tickets are $20 and the party starts at 9 p.m.


Funk Night @ Outer Limits: Get funy at Outer Limits Friday night! Heavy Funk & Sweet Soul will be spun by Brad Hales & Frank Raine starting at 10 p.m.

Saturday, October 28th:

Howl-O-Ween Dog Brunch: Dress up your pup and head to Detroit Fleat this Saturday morning for BarkNation's Howl-O-Ween Dog Brunch. There will be a dog costume party, bone bar, raffles, brunch, and more. Proceeds help out BarkNation. The fun goes from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Trick or Treating @ Eastern Market: The first 500 kids at Shed 5 of Eastern Market this Saturday will receive a free bag of candy! Then, shop with vendors throughout the market and some of them might even add a treat to your bag. The market is open from 6 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Thirst Wave + Industrial Is Not Dead Halloween Bash @ Small's: Dance to your favorite Retro, New Wave, Post-Punk, Goth Industrial, Dark 80's and 90's tunes and dance the night away at Small's this Saturday night! Thirst Wave + Industrial Is Not Dead are teaming up for their annual Halloween party. There will be plenty of Halloween tricks and treats throughout the night, a costume contest with cash prizes totalling $500, concert ticket giveaways, free pizza (while supplies last), and more. Doors open at 9 p.m. 18+ are welcome. Cover is $5 for those 21+ before 10 p.m., $10 for 21+ after 10 p.m., and $15 for those 18-20. 

Halloween Bash 3 @ The Old Miami: Head to The Old Miami Saturday night for a costume contest, live music, and the best backyard in Detroit! The lineup for the evening includes Permanently Pissed and Sick Like You. $5 gets you in the door, 21+ are welcome, and things kick off at 9 p.m.

Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde at The Redford Theatre: Watch the 1920 classic Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde with an organ accompaniment this Saturday night at The Redford Theatre. The show begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are $15.
The Theatre Bizarre Orchestra @ The Loving Touch: There may not be Theatre Bizarre this year, but The Loving Touch is keeping the spirit alive with a more intimate macabre costume party featuring The Theatre Bizarre Orchestra. The orchestra will be performing two full sets on Saturday evening. So, put on your best costume and head to Ferndale for an unforgettable evening. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 the day of the show, but we highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance for this one. Get yours here. Doors open at 7 p.m. and 21+ are welcome.

Booty Ball @ Marble Bar: Join Sheefy McFly, Nick Speed, and Something Blue for the second annual Booty Ball at Marble Bar! Put on your costume and get ready to shake your booty! You might even win a prize in the costume contest with cash prizes. 21+ are welcome and the party goes from 9 p.m. - 3 a.m.

Halloween Freak-Out Spooktacular @ The Sanctuary: Head to The Sanctuary for a Halloween party and great metal show this Saturday night. The bill includes Acid Witch, Restless Spirit, Wastelander, and Sauron. This show is brought to you by Heavy & Beyond. Tickets are $20, get yours here. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Skroove-O-Ween: Head to Skroove in Royal Oak for a costume contest, beer pong tournament, and a whole bunch of fun this Saturday night. Tunes will be provided by Kids Like Us and Sarah G. Things kick off at 8 p.m.

Detroit's Devils Den: There's a haunted rave this Saturday night in Detroit! It's happening at 7500 Oakland Ave. and it's brought to you by MeanRed x Supply & Demand. Costumes are encouraged and there will be a contest with cash prizes. The party goes from 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Happy Endings Halloween Dance Party: Happy Endings turns into Unhappy Endings for their 13th annual Halloween dance party this Saturday night. This time around, the party is happening at Eastern Palace Club in Hazel Park. 21+ are welcome and the fun starts at 10 p.m. The night will feature Classic Alt / Dark Wave / Goth Halloween jams from DJs Mike Trombley and Udenjoe. Costumes are encouraged and there's no cover.

Garden Bowl Halloween Party: The Garden Bowl is having a Halloween Dance Party with DJ Femme Ferale! Admission is free and costumes are encouraged. 21+ are welcome. The party goes from 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Houseparty Halloween: Head to Spot Lite Saturday night for DJs J House, Masquenada, and Special Guest: Lost in Kyoto. For this costume party, you're encouraged to dress up as your favorite movie character, putting a fun twist on the night! The party goes from 9 p.m. - 2 a.m. and 21+ are welcome. Carmel Liburdi & Friends @ The Lexington Bar: Carmel Liburdi & Friends will be playing a spooky set at The Lexington Bar this Saturday night. Joining them for the evening are Blind Liars (Ypsi) and Pet Me (Lansing). Cover is $10, 21+ are welcome, and things kick off at 8 p.m.

Sunday, October 29th:

Tainted Love - an 80's Halloween Party @ Motor City Wine: DJs Michael Fotias & David A-P taking you on the ride onto the dancefloor with sounds of the 80's, including New Wave, Goth, Freestyle, Post Punk, Alternative, Rap and more. Admission is free and the fun goes from 8 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Halloween Market at Urbanrest: Shop local and buy yourself something spooky at Urbanrest this weekend! The shopping is happening Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 1-5 p.m. with 10 different vendors. Get all of the details here

Monday, October 30th:

Slow Jams 15 Year Anniversary: Just like every Monday night, Woodbridge Pub is the place to be this coming Monday night for Slow Jams! This time around is extra special because Slow Jams will be celebrating Halloween and their 15 Year Anniversary. Eastside Jon and Erno will be playing all vinyl all night, along with some surprise special guests. As always, cover is free. The tunes start at 10 p.m.

Devil's Night at The Cafe: Cafe 1923 will have live music, poetry readings, and a costume contest on Devil's Night. Sets will be performed by Bad Medicine and Emilie Rivard, with Jeremy Siegrist reading Edgar Allen Poe pieces. The entertainment starts at 6 p.m. and admission is free (but the entertainers do appreciate tips). 

Tuesday, October 31st:

Halloween Trivia Night @ The Painted Lady: Throw a costume on and head to the Painted Lady to show how smart you really are! The Lady will be hosting their weekly trivia night plus there will be a costume contest. There will be spooky drink specials too! $5 gets you in and the fun starts at 8 p.m.       


Cheaper Creepy @ The Lager House: Halloween night, head to The Lager House for the Creaper Cheepy Halloween Cover Show! The lineup for the night includes Other Sister as The Mountain Goats, Carmel Liburdi & Friends as The Violent Femmes, Fat Angry Hens as The Breeders, and Purple & Grey as The Pixies. Doors open at 7 p.m., the show starts at 8, and $10 gets you in.

Halloween Cover Show @ Outer Limits Lounge: Elvis, Fugazi, Velvet Underground and more are on the bill at Outer Limits Halloween night! It might not be the real thing, but we're sure they will at least be damn good covers! Doors open at 7 p.m., music starts at 7:30, and cover is $10.


Hallowicked @ The Masonic Temple: ICP takes over The Masonic Temple on Halloween night for the 30th Annual Hallowicked! Join ICP, Esham, and more for a night of debauchery, including live music, vendors, and a whole lot of Faygo. Tickets start at $59 and can be purchased here. All ages are welcome.

Jett Plastic Recordings Celebrates 10 Years

This weekend, Jett Plastic Recordings will celebrate its 10 year anniversary. The record label was started by Jarrett Koral when he was just 15 years old. Over the past 10 years, the label has released music from countless local acts including After Dark Amusement Park, The ILL Itches, Grayling, and The Idiot Kids, as well as some acts fronted by some seriously famous celebrities. This includes Macaulay Culkin's band The Pizza Underground,  Corey Feldman's band, and coming this fall an album from Pauly Shore's band The Crustys. 

To celebrate this milestone anniversary, Jett Plastic will be holding a two day festival this Friday and Saturday, October 20th and 21st at the Lager House. JettBlast Fest will feature 20 bands over 2 days playing on 2 stages. $20 gets you in the door each day.  Check out the lineup below:

Hip In Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: October 13-15

Friday, October 13th - Friday the 13th @ The Painted Lady: Celebrate Friday the 13th with Jason at The Painted Lady in Hamtramck! Once again this year, The Painted Lady will have dozens of Jason masks on display, adorned with designs from local artists and customers. There will also be raffles throughout the night with lots of cool prizes. Proceeds from the raffle will go towards the Pepper Spray Project. KO Prints will also be on site screen printing special shirts for the event and tunes for the evening will be provided by DJ Blayd. 


Friday, October 13th - James Linck @ Ghost Light: One of our favorite musicians, James Linck, will be performing at The Ghost Light in Hamtramck this Friday night. James will be playing along with The DeCarlo Family and Jeff St. John. $10 gets you in the door and things kick off at 9 p.m.

Friday, October 13th - Monster Mash: A Bunnefit Show: Get spooky, dance, laugh, and help some bunny rabbits this Friday night. Sounds like quite the combo, doesn't it? It's all happening at Monster Mash: A Bunnefit Show at ArtBlock (1411 Holden St.). There will be music from DJs Sam Morykwas, Seven Whales and LILAHK as well as Emily Rose and Rose St. Germaine. Then, there will be comedy sets from Joe Aasim, Nicole Melnyk, and Sarah Lynn. And last by not least, there will be delicious vegan food from Radical Plants and Coffee from Dessert Oasis. $10 gets you in and proceeds go to Hay Monsters Rabbit Sanctuary. The fun goes from 6-10 p.m.

Saturday, October 14th - Hellmouth @ The Sanctuary: After years, Hellmouth will return to the stage this Saturday night at The Sanctuary! If you don't have tickets already, you'll be sad to hear that this one is sold out. But, if you keep an eye on Facebook and IG, there are some fans that are selling extra tickets. Just be sure you know who you're buying from so you don't get scammed. Hellmouth will be joined by Steve Greene from Voagy3r for this one. They also have a daytime show on Sunday at Berkley Coffee with SNAFU (also sold out [insert sad trombone here]). If you were able to score tickets to either or both of these shows, consider yourself lucky!
