Helping To Save Lives With a Night of Laughter and Fun

Approximately 30,000 Americans commit suicide every year. The sad fact is that most of us know someone that has taken their own life. After a staple in the Detroit music scene passed away in 2012, Katie Hardy, along with Jenn Koss and friends, decided that something needed to be done about this. She formed a group called Suck It Suicide that's purpose is to provide awareness about suicide and support to those in need.

This Saturday night Suck It Suicide is having a fundraising event that is sure to lift some spirits. Nine comedians are coming together at Small's in Hamtramck for a night of fun and laughter. Admission is only $5 with all proceeds going to help people in need and families that have lost a loved one to suicide and need support. Since this group and these ladies have such big hearts, they have also decided to use this event to help out in another way. At the comedy show there will also be a drive for items that will help keep the homeless warm during this extremely cold winter. They will be collecting warm blankets/sleeping bags, emergency blankets, scarves, hats, warm socks, and soft pre-packaged snack food. The best part is that if you bring items to donate, Suck It Suicide will give you a shirt for free. It's really a win win, you'll be helping others through your donation and then you get a free shirt with a sweet design that also helps support this foundation and spread awareness. So, I guess that actually makes it a win win win situation.

Doors to Small's open at 8 p.m. on Saturday and the show will begin at 9. The lineup of comedians for the evening includes Ray Hollifield, Laura Witkowski, Heather Kozlakowski, Hailey Zureich, Bruce Pych, Blain Hill, Ben Langworthy, Justin McLeod and John Mahar.
