Food Time! Ferndale Restaurant Week!

If you're anything like me, you probably go out to eat way more often than you should. Often times we get sick of dining at the same old places. Lucky for us frequent diners, many cities have started "restaurant weeks". They give people a reason to go out and try a new restaurant. On the other hand, for those that usually cook at home this is a good reason to go out to dinner for a change.

This week, October 7th thru the 13th, Downtown Ferndale is hosting their restaurant week. If you missed Detroit's a couple of weeks ago or Hamtramck's last week, this is your chance to get your fill of food and, for many of you, you won't have to venture far from home. Plus, in our case, there are a couple of newer spots in Ferndale that we've been wanting to try out.

So, what's Ferndale Restaurant Week all about? Well, there are 24 restaurants on the list that are all offering $10, $20, and $30 dollar dining options. Some are just for meals for single people, while others are similar to the 2 dinners for $20 deals that many of the larger chains are offering. For instance, The Emory is offering a special for dinner or lunch for 2 people. You can choose one of two appetizers, then each person chooses a main course from about five choices, and finally you pick one of their two delicious desserts that are available. There are all sorts of offers available at the different restaurants, whether you want to go out for breakfast, dinner, or lunch. Head over to the Ferndale Restaurant Week website for a list of all of the restaurants and what ind of deals each one is offering. We were excited to see how many participants there are on the list and that the brand new talk of the town, Public House, is even joining in on the fun too!

In addition to the great food, there will also be an art show taking place during this food week. Each of the 24 venues will be hosting one piece of art. A gallery of all of the pieces will also be on Ferndale Food Week's Facebook. Patrons are asked to vote on which piece of art they like the most. Once the votes are tallied up, the winning artist will receive $10,000 cash! That's a pretty nice chunk of change! All of the pieces will be auctioned off at a silent auction later with half of the proceeds benefiting theartpart scholarship fund while the other half goes to the artist of the piece. So if you see a piece of art you like, make sure to vote for it, and then you may even have a chance to purchase it later!

Ferndale Restaurant Week is a great reason to get out and treat yourself to a great meal or snack this week. Grab a couple of friends, head down the street, and indulge yourself. And you won't have to feel too guilty about it either because you're supporting local businesses and doing your part to boost the economy! So it's a win/win!
