Get Your Golden Ticket Now! It's Willy Wonka Time!

When I was little, I was always more excited about watching an old, black and white movie than some Disney princess movie. To this day I don't think I've ever seen "Sleeping Beauty" and a bunch of other ones that most kids have seen. This is why my favorite movie to this day is "Charade" and why I've seen most musicals. Maybe they weren't quite as appropriate as all those Disney movies, but hey, at least there aren't priests with visible boners ("Little Mermaid") and 'sex' isn't written in the sky ("The Lion King")!
Anyway, one of the movies I saw when I was young, that I kind of wish I hadn't, is "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory". It creeped me out back then and I still have this weird feeling when I watch it, but that might just be how good Gene Wilder is at being creepy. "Willy Wonka" is definitely a classic and I will keep watching it until I love it as much as everyone else.

If you are one of the many people who absolutely love the the wonderful world of chocolate, then you're in luck. The ever amazing Redford Theatre is bringing this great film back to the big screen this weekend. They will have screenings on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9. The Friday screening will be at 8 p.m. and the Saturday screenings will be at 1 and again at 8 p.m. The tickets are only $5 and I would recommend getting yours now, they are going fast- and for a good reason!
There is going to be something a bit more special about this movie showing at the Redford. They are having the actors that played Charlie Bucket (Peter Ostrum) AND Mike Teevee (Paris Themmen) at the theatre to give a live introduction to the film before each screening. Back in the fall, I saw "The Birds" there and got to hear Tippi Hedren speak. I have to say it was a pretty cool experience. If you're a big fan of Charlie Bucket and Mike Teevee, which is one of my favorite kids from the movie. Although Sadie would tell me it should be Veruca Salt, but she's a bad egg. You'll even be able to get autographs from them, however that will cost $20.

The Redford Theatre keeps bringing awesome classics back to the theatre for us to watch. And for some of us who were not old enough to see them in the on the big screen back when they first came out, that is huge! As I've said before, you can't beat the organ music (visit their website for a taste of it), how beautiful the theatre is and the price. The money always goes towards restoring the theatre even further. I believe the next step is updating/fixing all of the seats, so it benefits you, too!

So, go watch Willy Wonka and support this awesome, old theatre in Detroit. There's a cute looking coffee shop next door and a place across the street that sells pie if you need a snack, even though they have one of the cheaper concession stands around.

The Redford Theatre has some amazing movies coming up soon, too. There will be "Easter Parade", a Three Stooges Festival (yes!!!) and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" all coming up just within the next month.
