Dilla Day Detroit

James ‘J Dilla’ Yancey was a musical innovator whose life was tragically taken way too early. His music has lived on and made him a legend in Detroit and in the hip hop community around the world.

Every year we gather to celebrate the life of this musical genius who made beautiful beats with everyone from everyone from Common to The Roots, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, and even Janet Jackson. This year's Dilla Day Detroit will coincide with his birthday and kick off a 20+ city tour that will celebrate all that was Dilla. This year's celebration will include DJs Premier and Pete Rock with performances by De La Soul and Slum Village. This world tour will be called "Welcome to Dillaville" and will actually go to over 13 different countries. You have a chance to check out the first night of the tour this Friday, February 7th at The Fillmore Detroit. Tickets for the event range from $47 to $117 and can be purchased here.

The Fillmore is located at 2115 Woodward in Detroit. To learn more about the legend that is J Dilla and about Dilla Day Detroit go to
