The Detroit Fireworks are tonight and there are few last minute things that you need to know if you are thinking about attending the festivities! The city of Detroit released a 6 page news release regarding the event but who the hell wants to read that? Here are the important things that you need to know:
Best Public Viewing Sites:
A- Belle Isle- Belle is closed until 2 p.m. today. Once it is open it is only open to vehicle traffic. Once the park has admitted 3,000 cars, no more cars will be admitted. Please note you must have a pass to bring a vehicle in the park. They can be purchased for $11 for the day or $31 for the year. The park will open at 5 p.m. to bicycles. Alcohol is not permitted. Tents that are 10 X 10 or smaller are permitted in the park. RV's are welcome to park on the paddock area near the Casino.
B- Hart Plaza- You can not begin setting up a viewing location until 2 p.m. today. They will be closing admittance to the park once it is full and once it is closed you will not be able to get back in if you leave the area. No tents will be allowed in this area. No open flames are allowed. No alcohol will be permitted and coolers and backpacks will be searched.
C- Mt. Elliott Park, Owens Park and Erma Henderson Park
The Municipal Parking Department also will not enforce parking meters after 5 p.m. today. But, you have to be careful of no parking zones and fire hydrants because they will be ticketing and towing for that! Towed vehicles within the downtown area will be held at 2121 W. Fort Street. Vehicles towed on Belle Isle will remain on the island. Free shuttles to tow lots will be available from 4 p.m. – 1 a.m. Tow lots close at 1 a.m. The fee for towing is $215.

Curfew will be enforced- The City will enforce a curfew for minors, ages 17 and under, that will be in effect from 8 p.m. on June 27 until 6 a.m. on June 28 for the area bounded by the Detroit River, Third Street, Lodge Freeway, Fisher Freeway, the extension of Fisher Freeway east to Gratiot Avenue, Gratiot Avenue, Vernor Highway, Chene Street, Atwater Street and Chene Park. Minors in violation of the curfew will be taken to the Coleman A. Young Recreation Center, 2751 Robert Bradby Drive. Minors will be held there until picked up by a parent or guardian. The parent or guardian also may receive a parental responsibility violation ticket.
If you take a bus, your ride might be affected. Bus rides within the city will be effected. If you will be taking a bus in the city today click here to see if your schedule will be effected.
The People Mover Should be Up and Running, but... - The Detroit People Mover will operate from 6:30 a.m. – Midnight. The Financial District and Joe Louis Arena (via the RiverWalk) stations are within walking distance of Hart Plaza. Due to the early closures of the Millender and Renaissance centers, trains will bypass these facilities on June 27 beginning at 6 p.m. There will be no public access to these People Mover stations. Patrons are asked to exit at the nearest available station. All other DPM stations will remain open.
