Skate or Die

Skateboarding and music go together like peanut butter and jelly. Well, technically I hate peanut butter and jelly so lets say peanut butter and bananas, in my case. Either way, you get the point. Music and skateboarding are married to each other in the most perfect way, one is constantly influencing the other.

This Saturday music and skateboarding will once again combine forces for the Zumiez Best Foot Forward Finals competition being held right here in Detroit. The nation's best armature skateboards will come together this Saturday, August 9th to compete. 37 skaters will have a chance to show us all what they can do on a custom built skate course being housed inside the Michigan Theater. They are all competing to win a Bones sponsorship, cash prizes, and a cross country trip to shoot footage at some of the best skate parks this country has to offer.

Converse is also bringing some big musical acts to play while they skate. Trash Talk and Detroit’s own Death will be performing.

The event takes place from 2-10 p.m. this Saturday and is free to anyone that wants to attend, There is limited space, so if you would like to guarantee a spot you need to get there early.

The Michigan Theater is located at 220 Bagley Detroit MI.

But, the fun doesn't have to stop at 10 pm. Assemble Detroit is sponsoring an after party to keep the good times going. This will take place at 441 W. Canfield (Warehouse behind Shinola). It is only $5 to get in and the event will feature live music from Rough Francis, ZelooperZ, and Black Noi$e. There will also be a half pipe there in case anyone wants to continue showing off their skating skills. There will be drinks and food for purchase at the after party as well as a chance to skate with some professionals. This is a great way to spend your Saturday in the city.
