Get Your Paddles Ready for the OABI Beach Fest!

Lately it seems the most popular way to be physically active in Detroit is biking. There are a ton of organized bike rides popping up all the time. Some are weekly, while others are monthly. Either way, bikes are BIG in Detroit right now. Well, this weekend you have a chance to head down to Belle Isle and get physical in a different way.

The Once Around Belle Isle Beach Fest is taking place this Saturday, August 9th at Belle Isle. This event is bringing people together for all sorts of paddling sports. As you probably know, Belle Isle is surrounded by water. So this event will be making good use of that feature by putting people on stand-up paddle-boards, and in kayaks and crew. There are all sorts of events revolving around these paddle boats, from races to beginner's lessons. You can check out the schedule of events here.

In addition to all of the paddling and boating, there will also be music, food trucks and vendors. Tunes will be provided by Erno the Inferno, Brian Sheehan, and Macpodz. And bringing it back to bikes, there is even a Slow Roll scheduled at 3 p.m. in conjunction with OABI!

The fun all starts at 9 a.m. and it goes 'til 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance here for $15 or the day of for $25. Kids 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. For more details on this event and everything going on throughout the day, click here.
