Griffin Claw Brewery

Breweries are becoming the hippest new restaurants around. Each new brewery that opens offers a different menu and a few house brewed libations for patrons to try. Personally, I am not a beer drinker so the brews do not draw me in, it's a solid menu that makes me pay attention.

Griffin Claw Brewery isn't in the main downtown area, instead it's sort of hidden in a subdivision of Birmingham. It features group seating and is first come first serve. That means no reservations, no private tables, and no special treatment. There are three different sections, inside, outside but covered, and outside and totally open. We choose outside but covered because it was drizzling.

I ordered pretzel sticks for the appetizer and mac and cheese with chicken for my meal. I also got a whiskey and ginger ale with a lime to wash it all down. The pretzel sticks came out piping hot and covered in butter, with a little dip of mustard they were truly delightful.
The mac and cheese came with an entire chicken breast and a mixture of fancy cheese on top. It was one of the most mouth melting meals I have ever experienced. I barely ate 1/3 of my food and I was stuffed. My dining partner got a brussel sprout salad and tried one of the house beers, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

The food was great, especially for the price and the quantity. The dining environment was nice and we had a great time.

I would highly suggest checking this place out the next time you're in the area. In my opinion, the mac and cheese kicked Slows' ass and rivaled Rock City Eatery. So if you order that, you're in for a real treat.

The restaurant is located at 575 South Eton St. in Birmingham. It is open 2-11 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 2 p.m. - Midnight on Fridays, 12 p.m. to Midnight on Saturdays, 12 p.m.-10 p.m. on Sundays and is closed on Mondays.

Bon appetite!
