The Darkness were catapulted to fame in 2003 with the release of their 1st album Permission to Land, which featured a little hit called “I Believe in a Thing Called Love”. There was a time when you couldn't turn your radio dial without hearing their song. Their video was played on MTV long after they stopped playing videos because people loved to see and hear these glam rockers from across the pond. They are known for their elaborate stage performances, makeup and outrageous outfits & props. They attempted to record and release a 2nd album in 2005, but personal problems with drugs and alcohol overshadowed the process this time. The band went their separate ways in 2006. Then, in 2009 they started working together again and in 2011 the band announced that they would be reuniting to do some shows. They would also potentially release a third album with all the original members. Apparently time heals all wounds after all.
The Darkness have spent the last few months touring across Europe with Lady Gaga, opening up the "Born This Way Ball", and are about to make their triumphant return to the U.S. Their latest album is called Hot Cakes and they have invited Hell or Highwater along to open the show. This Friday, they are playing at The Majestic Theatre at 9 p.m. and tickets are $25at the door. Their live show is something to see and is definitely worth the 25 bucks, but here at Hip In Detroit we always like to give you the chance to get in for free, because free is the best price.
