Hip in Detroit Talks to Trevor Phipps of Unearth Before the Come to Detroit on The Fury Tour (+ Ticket Giveaway)

The first annual Fury Tour will be making a stop in Ferndale at The Loving Touch. The tour features Unearth alongside Ringworm, Fit For an Autopsy, Culture Killer, Great American Ghost, and Athena's Grace.

Tickets to attend the show are $16 in advance, they can be purchased here. We also have a pretty cool prize pack to give away to the show courtesy of Black Iris Booking and Unearth. One lucky winner will get a pair of tickets to attend the show with a friend. Plus, they will get to pick a t-shirt (tee shirt, not hoodie!) of their choice from the merch table while they are at the show. If you would like to enter to win this prize pack please email your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with Unearth in the subject line. We will draw our winner the day before the show!

Check out our interview with the Unearth front man Trevor Phipps and get yourself psyched for the show!

HID- What is your personal get ready ritual before a live show?
Trevor Phipps- "Vocal warm ups, stretches, push ups, plenty of water, a few shots of Jim Beam all while cranking some classic rock or metal. All that gets me in the right place. It's my ritual."

HID- You play loud and fast so we have to ask, do you wear ear plugs when you play? Why or why not?
Trevor Phipps- "I occasionally wear them on stage, but not all the time. I do wear them every rehearsal though. The stage volume really isn't all that loud, so it's not always needed. When we play a small stage I need them because the cymbals from the drums are so close to my ears and that can cause some damage."

HID- How did you pick the bands you took out on the tour with you?
Trevor Phipps- "We usually make a wish list of bands we want to take on tour with us as well as have our management and booking agent take submissions for the tour. There's always some back and forth with management about who's on the tour, but every line up we take out ends up having our final approval. These are all killer bands on Fury and we are looking forward to hearing them every night for a month."

HID- Do you guys have any plans to go back in the studio to record anything anytime soon?
Trevor Phipps- "We are still supporting out latest album "Watchers of Rule" with tours worldwide, but we have slowly started the writing process for the next album. There's no timetable for it though and we will focus on "Watchers" for now. It's a great record and we need to make sure people get a chance to hear it."

HID- What bands are you listening to these days, anyone you want to recommend to our readers?
Trevor Phipps- "I've recently been listening to a lot of Gojira, Nails, Mastodon and Lamb of God when I need my metal fix. I do occasionally go for some lighter stuff though and lately Him and Ben Harper have been my lighter rock artists of choice."

HID- Favorite restaurant or fast food place to go on tour?
Trevor Phipps- "Vortex in Atlanta has been my favorite restaurant on tour. They have some amazing burgers. My favorite fast food spot is a tie with Five Guys and In and Out Burger. Obviously I love burgers."
