An Awesome Night with Boyz II Men @ Motor City Board

Last night 90s R&B group Boyz II Men performed at Sound Board at Motor City Casino. The group is out on a short tour celebrating their 25th anniversary before they head back to Vegas to continue their residency at The Mirage. The Detroit date was hosted by Goodwill Industries. They called this the Harmonies and Hope concert, with proceeds going towards Goodwill in their efforts to help Metro Detroiters get back to work through job training and placement programs.

When I first got invited out to this show, my thoughts were "sure, why not? I loved 'Motown Philly' when I was a kid. " I didn't really know what to expect, but if nothing else it would be a fun night out. What I didn't expect was that this would be one of the best shows I have been to in a long time. The now trio of Boyz II Men interacted with the crowd, cracked some jokes, and played all of the fan favorites. (There were a few times that I had flashbacks to Jr. High School dances with songs like "End of the Road" and "On Bended Knee".) Then, in the middle of the show, the guys busted out their guitars and played some of their favorites. And I don't mean their favorite Boyz II Men songs, they played songs like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana and "Come Together" by The Beatles. This was definitely unexpected, but they nailed every song they played. It was awesome, to say the least.

Our good friend (and my +1 for the evening), George Mikla, compiled some awesome videos that he shot on his iPhone during the show. Check it out below.

I urge you to check Boyz II Men out next time they come to town or if you happen to be going to Las Vegas anytime soon. I heard from a friend that their Vegas show is phenomenal, and after last night, I definitely believe it!
