Two Hip Ways to Celebrate Small Companies in Detroit this Week

There is no such thing as an overnight success. Just because you don't know the story behind a band, brand, entrepreneur or artist yet doesn't mean that they came out of nowhere. It simply means that it took them a while to cast a wide enough net for you to become hip to them. We spend a lot of time trying to turn people on to all of the interesting people, places and things that we have found on our adventures around the city, so there is nothing we like to see more than local companies making moves and expanding. Two well known local companies are throwing parties this week to celebrate big steps in their business!

Rebel Nell and York Project Team Up to Open their 1st Brick and Mortar Space Together -
Rebel Nell is a local jewelry company that was created in 2013. Their mission is to "to employ women facing barriers to employment in Detroit, educate them on financial management, life wellness, and entrepreneurship, and empower them to transition to a life of independence". They turn the fallen layers of graffiti from around the city into cash that they use to change the lives of the women that help them create beautiful pieces of jewelry.

York Project is a Detroit streetwear company that was founded in 2012. They began by giving 1 hat away for every hat they sold and expanded into a company that creates small-batch American made clothing that gives back to local charities.

Together, they will open their first brick and mortar space at 1314 Holden St, Detroit, this Thursday, August 22nd. They will be celebrating their grand opening with food drinks and music. The opening party will take place from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. this Thursday and it will be the first time that you will have the chance to shop both brands in the same space!
