There's a lot going on this weekend! Here are just a few of our picks!

Friday, August 23 - Shock Narcotic Release Show @ The Sanctuary: Shock Narcotic is celebrating the release of their debut album this Friday night at The Sanctuary and they're bringing out a bunch of their friends to play the release show. The Sanctuary will have 2 stages set up for the show and the lineup includes Sekkusu, Axioma, Plague Years, Throne, Drink Their Blood, Triangulations , and ScumRotten. Cover for the show is $12, which includes a copy of the album on CD or cassette. Vinyl is available for $6 more. For those that aren't familiar with Shock Narcotic, the band features Jeff Tuttle (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan, Old Gods) , Shawn Knight (Child Bite), Zach Gibson (ex-The Black Dahlia Murder, Shit Life, Nightkin) and Don Slater (Battlecross). Give the new album a listen here.

Saturday, August 24 - Modern Skate & Surf 40th Anniversary Bash: It takes a lot to start a business, a lot of guts and a lot of hard work. Many businesses last a few years and then fade away, but if you're lucky, your business will succeed and will be around for years. When George Leichtweis started Modern in 1979, he probably didn't think that the company would still be around 40 years later. Modern is a huge part of the skate community here in Metro Detroit and this Saturday they want you to come celebrate their 40th anniversary with them. Vans will be in town for the event along with a bunch of professional skateboarders. There will be live music from The Hentchmen, The Cheetahs, Ron Allen aka MC Intelligence, Werewolf Jones, and a super secret headliner. Plus, there will be skating, obviously! The party starts at 2 p.m. and goes 'til midnight. Cover is $10 or $25 if you want to skate too!

Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25th - Hazel Park Art Fair: If you're looking for something to do during the day this Saturday or Sunday, swing by the Hazel Park Art Fair! The event will feature dozens of artists and vendors, as well as some non-profits too. There will also be live music from performers like JD Wright, Emma Guzman, and Mike Anton. You can check out a full list of performers here. The event takes place at Green Acres Park from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Come hungry because Nosh Pit and Hero or Villain will be on site too!

Saturday, August 24 - The Dropout @ Deluxx Fluxx: The Dropout has been hard at work making new music and this Saturday night, he will bring that music to the stage at Deluxx Fluxx. Lonely City is "a collaborative effort to bring our friends in the city a little closer together". This show is celebrating the release of that record. Joining The Dropout for the evening are SKYrise and Bob Lemon. Cover is only $5, doors open at 7 p.m. and 21+ are welcome. This one will most likely sell out, so do yourself a favor and purchase tickets in advance here.

Satuday, August 24 - Looking For A Kiss - A Detroit Benefit For Sylvain Sylvain: Recently, Sylvain Sylvain, songwriter and original longtime member of the NY Dolls, was diagnosed with cancer. This Saturday night, some of Detroit's biggest rockers are coming together to raise money to help him get back on his feet. The lineup for the evening includes Mike Skill’s '67 Riot, The Trash Brats, Johnny Blitz (Dead Boys), Demolition Dollrods, Amy Gore Band and Human Eye. There will also be a special performance by The Detroit Dolls All Star Band featuring Smitt E. Smitty, Skid Marx, Nikki Corvette, Marcie Bolan, Dave Hanna, Eddie Baranek, Gerald Shohan, Stirling Silver, Brian McCarty, Danny Dollrod , Ricky Rat, and Timmy Vulgur. Doors for this great show will open at 8 p.m. and the music starts at 9 p.m. Cover is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Can't make it to the show, but still want to help out?
