Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: August 30 - September 2

We already told you about a lot of awesome things happening this weekend! Here are a few more that we had to make sure to mention!

Friday, August 30th - Motor City Funk Night @ Marble Bar: One of the best parties around returns to Marble Bar this Friday night! Motor City Funk Night will be playing that funky music and making you dance all night! There will be DJ sets from Scott Craig, Frank Raines, and Eastside Jon, plus The Mighty Funkhouse Band will be performing. Cover is $5, doors open at 9 p.m. and the party starts at 10.



Friday, August 30 - Monday, September 2nd - Detroit Jazz Festival: The Detroit Jazz Fest takes over Downtown this weekend! The event will bring musicians to 3 stages at Hart Plaza and a stage at Campus Martius. There will also be music in the Marriott at night, since it is the official hotel of the festival.  The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, and runs all weekend long. Admission is free. Saturday, August 31 - 15 Years of The Painted Lady Lounge: The Painted Lady will be celebrating its 15th birthday this Saturday night! The night will feature booze, burlesque, and bourbon. And in case you didn't know, The Painted Lady has an amazing bourbon collection with selections that you won't see at most bars! Cover is free, 21+ are welcome, and the party starts at 8 p.m.


Sunday, September 1st - Small's Band Blender: Small's brings back their Band Blender this Sunday night with 13 bands on 3 stages, playing 20 minutes sets. The lineup for this blender includes Dental Work, The Wretched Sights, The Counter Elites, Sid Redlin, Glass Chimera, Korean Jeans (Chicago), Moustache Bride (Milwaukee), Shallow Stairs, Steve Harvey Oswald, The Erratic Retaliator Strategy (Chicago), Space Skull, Girl Fight, EnD and The Amino Acids. Cover is only $5 for those 21+ and $10 for 18+. Proceeds from the show will go to the WSU Center for Urban Studies' Strategies and Tools for Overdose Prevention (STOP) initiative, distributing Naloxone aka NARCAN within Metro Detroit. The show starts at 9 p.m.
