The Brooklyn Street Local has Become our Go To Lunch Spot

Detroit's restaurant scene has seen a huge boom over the last five years. There are tons of new places to get a unique dinner with friends. But, all of these new spaces tend to serve up experimental food, are hard to get into, and most of them are pretty pricey even if it's "worth it". There aren't a lot of new places to go grab a good meal midday, especially if you're vegan like myself. Thankfully, there is one place in the city where you can have a great lunch that's affordable, socially responsible, and tasty, even if you are vegan like me.

The Brooklyn Street Local is a great local restaurant that serves up breakfast lunch and brunch Tuesday through Sunday every week. They use fresh locally sourced ingredients and are dedicated to composting, recycling, waste reduction, and decreasing their environmental footprint. They also source their ingredients from over 20 local businesses, 13 of which are right in the City of Detroit.

Their menu offers up a variety of options from breakfast fares like tofu and eggs to great lunch items like burgers, sandwiches, salads and a variety of Poutine choices.  They have tons of vegan choices, including a vegan Reuben and mini carrot cupcakes. We generally like to order the tofu scramble plus spinach. There is nowhere else in town to get a meal like this unless it's the weekend so I love being able to get my fix midweek when I need it.

The service is always impeccable, the coffee is good, and they have a full bar if you are in the mood to drink something with a little more of a kick. They also have a variety of daily specials that are always worth asking about when you visit.

Brooklyn Street Local is located at 1266 Michigan Ave. in Detroit. They are open from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Saturdays, and 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sundays. This is a great place for vegans and non-vegans to meet up and both enjoy something good.
