Detroit's Newest Bar/Venue Wants to Redefine How You Experience Art and Live Music

Detroit has always been known for our music but over the last 10 years we have also begun to be known for our art, food, and drink culture. Bars like Sugar House and Two James elevated the drink culture, while restaurants like Selden Standard and Chartreuse have elevated the food culture to a whole new place. Red Bull House of Art and the Library Street Collective helped take the art culture to a whole new level, and thanks to their hard work and perseverance, a new bar and venue called Deluxx Fluxx is hoping to combine the city's love of live music with our love of art to take Detroit's nightlife to a whole new level.
Thomas Merton said, "art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time" which is exactly what we think you will do the first time you enter the doors of Deluxx Fluxx. The bar/venue/living art installation is meant to take you outside and put you inside the minds of Brooklyn-based artist duo Faile along with Bast. The touring party/art installation has been changing lives since 2010, but this is the first time that they have set down any permanent roots anywhere.
Every inch of the bar and venue has been designed by the artists and every detail has been addressed. There are custom video games that play Detroit themed games and feature advertisements from high profile Detroiters like Jason Hall (RiDetroit/Pizza 365/formerly of Slow Roll). The walls are covered in posters and art that was created by the duo, this includes every table, every booth, and every wall. In fact, even the bar taps and the lighted mirror behind the bar were created by the duo. The lighting and the sound are 100% custom, in fact everything in the bar/venue is custom. Every detail has been addressed. You can easily forget where you are or what you are doing, there are no windows and you have to go down a set of stairs and along hallway to get inside the venue in the first place. It is easy to immerse yourself and let go.

The venue has a 250 capacity and will feature over 10 custom cocktails on tap. They will be open Tuesday thru Sunday and drinks will range from $3 to $12 a piece. The best part of the whole thing is that Detroit legend Virginia Benson will be booking the venue. She is the brains behind Party Store Productions and she knows how to bring great music to Detroit. She also plans to bring lots of weekly events to the space so she can keep it eclectic.

This is the coolest bar/venue that we have ever seen! We cannot wait to see the first band play there when they open their doors for their first show/event this Friday. But, before we talk about the opening, check out this interview with Virginia and Kyle (the cocktail creator) to get the inside scoop on the space from the hip kids that have been working their asses off to bring this new experience to you!

Deluxx Fluxx is located inside The Belt. It is marked by a green door and four Xs above it. Make sure to follow the venue here to stay in the loop on all of their upcoming events.
