Happy 5th Birthday, Ironclad!

Five years ago, Hip in Detroit was just getting started. We were visiting a lot of new places as they opened and doing features on the spaces to help get the word out. One of those places that we visited was Ironclad, a tattoo and piercing shop that was about to open in Troy, Michigan. You can watch our insanely dated interview here.

Since then, I got my first tattoo from Mike Bagwell, got my eyebrows microbladed on by the incredibly talented Jessica Haze (best thing that ever happened to me) who now works out of the space, and watched one of my best friends get her ears pierced 20 years after the rest of us did (better late than never girl). They started with a small staff and have expanded to have over 15 people who regularly work inside their shop. They also have tons of guest artists that stop in for residencies inside the shop when they are in town. You can follow them online to get up to date information on who will be stopping by throughout the year and you can come out to the Tangent Gallery this Friday, September 1st to celebrate five years of the shop with the entire crew!

The Ironclad crew is inviting everyone out to their circus themed bash at The Tangent this Friday. The party will feature freaky performances by Aimee Funk, Eric Scott Baker, and Shadow with DJ sets by Jeff Tabb. Doors open at 9 p.m. and the fun goes until 2 a.m. The Tangent Gallery is located at 715 Milwaukee Street. We look forward to celebrating another successful year of a great local business and we hope to see some of you there!
