The First Annual Detroit International Festival of Animation

This weekend, April 8th and 9th, The Tangent Gallery will host the first annual Detroit International Animation Festival (DIFA). The two day event will feature local and national artists and over 90 minutes of animated shorts. The films will range from "cute and quirky to sophisticated mini features". The event will also feature animation and comic inspired art alongside an expo of local artists, animators, zine publishers and comic creators.

The festival will run from 6 p.m. through Midnight on Friday with screenings at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. It will run from 4 p.m. through Midnight on Saturday with screening at 5 p.m., 7 p.m., and 9 p.m. You can view the full screening schedule for the weekend here. The event will feature exhibitions from Brian Weirdartist Lewandowski (Fraser), Crystal Mielcarek (Hamtramck), Erin Kruczek (Dearborn), Joe Uebie (Livonia), Mark Jackson (Fraser), Mark Sarmel (Ferndale), Sofia Syntaxx (Detroit), Steve Czapiewski (Novi), T.H. Admission is $10 ($5 matinee Sat. at 5 p.m.). The bar will be open during the event and cosplay is welcome! The Tangent Gallery/ Hastings Ballroom is located at 715 E Milwaukee, Detroit.
