17 Weeks of Artists at Gallery 17 in The Russell Industrial Center

When you're driving down 75 through Detroit, you can't miss the giant building on the East side of the freeway adorned with a very artsy lion. The building is The Russell Industrial Center and it is the work space for some of Detroit's most talented individuals. Artists, musicians, and other creative types all fill the over 100 spaces throughout the 7 buildings that make up the center. Starting this weekend, The Russell is going to start featuring all of the great work made inside its walls.

This Saturday, June 14th, The Russell Industrial Center is going to open the doors to a new addition to their community. The space is being called Gallery 17 and it will feature work from tenants in the Russell as well as other local artisans. They plan to have an opening every Saturday evening for the next 17 weeks. This weekend the artists being featured are M80 and EARTH Studio. M80 creates awesome works of art out of items he finds and repurposes. EARTH Studio is actually another gallery within the center who features several different artists and a wide array of mediums, from paintings to three dimensional art. You can check out what they're all about online here.

Saturday's opening starts at 5 p.m. and goes 'til 8 p.m. Gallery 17 will have a gift shop within it called Isle 17, which will also feature work from the artists in the R.I.C. The Russell Industrial Center is located at 1600 Clay St. in Detroit. Just take the Clay/East Grand Blvd. exit off I-75 and you can't miss it! For more details on Gallery 17, head over to their Facebook here. Make sure you check out their events page here to see what other artists will be featured in the upcoming weeks!
