Win Tickets to Thelma and the Sleaze and Craig Brown Band at Outer Limits Lounge

It has been almost two years, but ticket giveaways are back!

We love having the opportunity to get you into a show for free, so we have reached out to a few of our favorite bookers to get back into the swing of things.

From now on, we will keep ticket giveaways simple and run them a little longer than we used to. We will also be drawing winners the day before the show instead of the day of the show. So, expect us to have tickets locked down 24 hours before the event starts.

Our very first giveaway comes from Party Store Productions. They are hosting Thelma and the Sleaze and Craig Brown Band at the Outer Limits Lounge on Monday, August 23rd. 21+ are welcome and the music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets to attend the event are $15 and they can be purchased here. You can also enter to win a pair by emailing your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with Thelma and the Sleaze in the subject line. Don't Miss Three Days of Great Music and Fun at the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival

Every Labor Day Weekend, Joseph Campau is taken over by vendors, beer stands, a carnival, and some of the best music that Detroit has to offer. The Hamtramck Labor Day Festival always hosts some of the best bands around, playing two different stages, but this year, the fest may have outdone itself. This weekend if you head to Hamtramck, you have a chance to see acts like Stef Chura, The Muggs, Craig Brown Band, and Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. Those are just some of the headlining acts playing this year's fest. Some other highlights include The Octopus, Ancient Language, Mugen Hoso (from Japan), Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor, and Kimball. Actually, the whole lineup is pretty awesome from start to finish, you can check it out below.
In addition to great music, there will also be a carnival daily, great food for sale, the Polish Day Parade, and of course, the Hamtramck Yacht Club Canoe Races. For those that aren't familiar with the yacht races, representatives of different bars throughout Hamtramck will compete against each other in a race, with pushcarts that look like canoes. The race is always a blast and takes place on Monday at Noon.

Cover to the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival is free. There is also free street parking available throughout town, and if you ride your bike to the festival, Wheelhouse Detroit will have a free bike valet. We promise you, this festival is always a great time! Make sure you stop by one day or even all three days this weekend!

Hip in Detroit Talks 10 Years with PJ from PJ's Lager House

PJ's Lager House is a staple of Corktown. It's a great place to grab a drink, have a meal, and to hear live music. The space originally opened in 1914 as a neighborhood bakery and restaurant, it was a "furniture store" during prohibition, a beer garden in the in the 50's and the birthplace of garage rock in the 90's. 10 years ago its current owner PJ, bought the space and continued the space's long tradition of serving up some of the best up and coming rock and roll musical acts in town. He also once again established the space as a restaurant that he made famous with his gumbo and curated vegetarian menu.

This Saturday he will celebrate 10 years of ownership by serving up some free food and good music with admission. The bill for the night includes some great local acts like Duende!, Lac La Belle, and Craig Brown Band. We took this opportunity to sit down with PJ for a long chat on a couch that was given to him for his green room by The Hard Lessons once upon a time. We suggest you take the time to listen to our interview with PJ and stop by the party this Saturday to congratulate the entire staff on 10 awesome years. We truly hope that despite what he says, we have at least 10 more!

$10 gets you in and feeds you. Doors for this one open at 6 p.m. this Saturday and the music starts at 6:30 sharp.

Win a Pair of Tickets to See Danny Kroha at El Club

You may not know the name Danny Kroha, but I bet you have heard of The Gories. Danny was a major player in the legendary band before moving on to a successful solo career. He is part of the Third Man Records family, they released his only solo album to date, called Angels Watching Over Me, last year. The self titled single can be heard in this cool video we found of Danny playing in Paris last year.

His music has taken him all over the world, but he will be returning home this Thursday, August 25th to play El Club alongside Craig Brown Band and Ohtis. Tickets to get in to the show are only $5 in advance, but they will be $10 the day of the show. We also have one pair of tickets to give away to attend for free courtesy of Party Store Productions. If you would like to enter to win a pair of tickets to the show, please email your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with the subject #DK.
