What's the difference between Ima and Ima Izakaya?

Ima has been one of our favorite places to eat since they opened their first location in Corktown in 2016. Since then. they have expanded into Midtown Detroit and Madison Heights (the burbs). They are legitimately our favorite place to order to-go from because they separate the food and the broth so nothing extra hot is in plastic which means it tastes almost as good at my house as it does when I sit down at one of their restaurants.

They recently switched things up a bit by moving their Corktown location across the street to take over the old Gold Cash Gold building and gave this space a special name: Ima Izakaya. We weren't sure what that meant so we looked it up. "An izakaya is a type of informal Japanese bar that serves alcoholic drinks and snacks. Izakaya are casual places for after-work drinking, similar to a pub, a Spanish tapas bar, or an American saloon or tavern."  In this case, Ima Izakaya is Ima + more!  This includes small plates, a robata grill, sushi, a HUGE drink menu, and much much more! It's everything you already loved about Ima plus more in an even more beautiful setting.

Ima Izakaya is located at 2100 Michigan Ave Detroit. They are currently open 11 am - 10 pm Monday - Friday, 11 am - 11 pm on Saturdays, and 12 pm - 10 pm on Sundays. You can make reservations to visit here. This is one of the most solid spots in Detroit and it is very vegan-friendly!

Head over to our IG for a reel showing you inside the new spot!
