Hip In Detroit's Guide to the 2017 Hamtramck Music Festival

This weekend the Hamtramck Music Festival will attract thousands as it brings together over 170 bands playing at over 20 venues throughout the great City of Hamtramck. This is the fourth year for the festival that is ran by a group of great volunteers that simply love music and love Hamtramck. We had a chance to chat with a few of the organizers on our latest podcast. In case you missed it, click here to hear what Eugene Strobe, Lee Rosenbloom and Melody Malosh had to say about the fest and this year's event.

The event kicks off this Thursday night at the new Planet Ant Hall, right across the street from the Planet Ant Theatre. The lineup for that evening will be spread across two stages and it includes Handgrenades, Carjack., The High Strung, Tin Foil, Rah The Son, Zombie Jesus & The Chocolate Sunshine Band, Scarlet Lies, Jerry Dreams and the Detroit Pleasure Society. This is a great chance to not only see some new bands, but to see the new hall and pick up your wristband so you're ready to go for the rest of the weekend! Wristbands for the HMF are only $10 and then you can get into all of the venues throughout the weekend and see as many bands as you can handle. Check out the entire schedule below.
With nearly 200 bands and more than 20 different venues, the options can be a bit overwhelming. That's why we decided to narrow down the list for you a bit and let you know our top picks of must see acts for this weekend.
Just get to the hall early and stay late. It's the kick off and it will be worth it.

Keep in mind, one of the best thing about this festival is making your way from bar to bar and seeing bands that you've never heard of or seen before, so try not to just limit your weekend to your or our favorites. And obviously you can't see everyone on that list, but at least we've narrowed things down for you a bit! Getting from place to place is also very easy because not only are the venues close together, but there will be a free shuttle provided by SMART bus. That way you can park in one spot and make your way around the city all night.

For info on the shuttle, to see a full schedule and for all of the info that you need to know about the HMF, head over to their nifty new website here. While you are there, make sure you check out the awesome new band finder, which will allow you to search for whichever band you want to see. Plus it will even give you a map to the venue. Once you're out on the town it's not always easy to remember where you wanted to go next, so if use this resource on your phone and you'll be sure to hit all of the stops you want throughout the weekend. You can also purchase your wristband through the website by clicking here. Wristbands are also available for purchase at most area record stores and will be available all weekend long at Detroit Threads. For a full list of locations that you can purchase a wristband at, click here.

Lucky for you, we also have a way that you can get into the Hamtramck Music Festival for FREE! Thanks to our friends at the HMF we are giving away two pairs of wristbands to the festival. If you would like to enter to win a pair of wristbands, just send your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with #HMF in the subject line. We will draw our lucky winners on Thursday morning and will send them details on how to claim their prize.

The fun all starts this Thursday at 8 p.m. and the festival runs March 2-5. For everything you need to know about the HMF, head over to HamtramckMusicFestival.com. Make sure you also give the fest a like on Facebook here and to stay in the loop throughout the whole weekend, RSVP to the main Facebook event here. See you in Hamtramck!
