The Best Way to Celebrate Paczki Day

Fat Tuesday is recognized by lots of people throughout Metro Detroit. In fact, many of us will be offered a paczki when we get into work or school on Tuesday. But, in Hamtramck it is much more than a day to eat a treat. In Hamtramck it's a cause for all out celebration. There are huge lines outside all of the bakeries and some of the bars open early and stay open late to celebrate. So, if you really want to celebrate Fat Tuesday this year, you need to attend the best celebration in town and try a paczki bomb.

The paczki bomb is a freshly baked mini sized paczki filled with some sort of custard or jam and some kind of yummy liquor that you can only get at Small's Bar. Eating one is a once in a lifetime experience that no Detroiter should miss out on. Don't believe us, check out the video of the first time we tried one a few years ago when the tradition was started:

Yeah, it really is as good as you think it's going to be.

Small's will be opening at  10 a.m. this Tuesday in celebration if the holiday and they will be selling bombs until they sell out. The bombs sell out every year no matter how many they order, so this might be the perfect day to call in sick to ensure your spot. The bar will also be featuring $5 cans of PBR and lots of yummy polish food.  It is FREE to get in and they have some great musical acts lined up, including Polka Floyd and Eastside Elvis starting at 4 p.m.

Small's is located at 10339 Conant in Hamtramck.
