Sleater-Kinney Plays Detroit for the First Time in Over a Decade!

Every riot grrrl loved Sleater-Kinney. I personally became obsessed with the bands fourth album Hot Rock, released in 1999, and quickly collected their back catalog. Sleater-Kinney rose to fame in 1994 and recorded and toured through 2005. They are a product of the Olympia punk rock scene that also birthed bands like Hole and Bikini Kill. They haven't toured or released music in over 10 years, but they recently decided to surprise their fans with a new record called No Cities to Love and a reunion tour that will be making a stop in Royal Oak this Tuesday, December 8th.
If you don't already know, Carrie Brownstein has found an entire second career since SK decided to take a break. She is the women behind the hit comedy Portlandia and she recently released a memoir called Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girlwhich I am currently in the process of reading. She is one of my idols. If you are not familiar with SK, Portlandia, or Carrie, you need to get hip! She is an icon!

Sleater-Kinney will be performing at the Royal Oak Music Theater at 7:30 this Tuesday alongside Alabama's Waxahatchee. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the show. The last time they played Detroit they performed at the Majestic Theater, ROMT will be a much cooler setting for this band. This is their first time here in over 10 years and might their last time in town for another 10. Basically, if you are at all interested in seeing this band, you better get your ass out to Royal Oak this Tuesday!
The riot grrrls of the Seraphine Collective will be hosting a Sleater-Kinney after party in Ferndale at The Loving Touch after the show. The party will feature three different DJs, including DJ Sisteranna, Shelley Salant and Dina Bankole. The after party is FREE and will be a great place to recap the night with fellow fans!
