Campus Martius Kicks Off the Holiday Season

It has been hard to get in the holiday spirit this year with the unseasonably warm weather we've been having lately. But, believe it or not, Thanksgiving is next week and that means that Christmas is right around the corner. If you're looking for a great way to jump right in to the "most wonderful time of the year" then head down to Campus Martius this Friday night for Detroit's Official Tree Lighting.

The 60 foot tree will light up at 8 p.m., but there are events going on all evening long leading up to the event and even after the lights come on! Some of the festivities include live music from the Four TopsKaren NewmanUnited Voices of Detroit, Michigan Opera Theatre’s Holiday Ensemble and Children’s Choir, Larry Lee & The Back In The Day Band, DJ Dante LaSalle, Killer Flamingos, and Emily Sobeck. There will also be street performers, figure skating, horse drawn carriage rides, and this is the official opening of the ice rink for the year. And last, but certainly not least, the big guy himself will be there! That's right, Jolly Old St. Nick a.k.a. Santa Claus will be at Campus Martius so you can get that list in nice and early!

All of the fun is set to start at 5 p.m and it will run until Midnight. Admission to the event is free, however there is a fee for ice skating and for carriage rides. For a list of those fees, click here. This will be a fun event for all ages. The night is going to be a little chillier than it has been lately, but it's the end of November! And those mittens and hats will just add to the holiday feel! For more details on this event and all of the events going on at Campus Martius this season, head over to CampusMartiusPark.org.
