Space Dive Brings the Mos Eisley Cantina to Detroit this May

May the fourth is almost here and that means it's time for Space Dive to transform Tangent Gallery into a galaxy far far away. The legendary event will take place over two weekends this year, for a total of five days, May 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, and 10th.

Space Dive is a one-of-a-kind immersive costume party inspired by the Mos Eisley Cantina. The event features full-sized spaceships, droids, holograms, vendors, live music, themed food and cocktails, nerf blaster fights, and much more, all centered around the cantina itself, straight out of the film. Once you step foot onto the Tangent's property, you feel like you've been transformed right onto the set of the movies. This is do not miss event for any Star Wars fan!

This year's adult only events will take place all five nights, from 7 PM - 2 AM. 21+ are welcome. Costumes for these events are mandatory, but don't let that intimidate you! While some attendees will have movie quality costumes on, you can easily fit right in by throwing on some things you have in your closet. Jumpsuits, scarves, boots, goggles, solid neutral colored clothes, bomber jackets, they'll all work. So have fun with it! There's even a helpful costume guide available over on the Space Dive website.
If you don't want your kids to miss out on the fun, Space Dive also offers family days on Saturday, May 3rd and 10th. These events are held from 11 AM - 4 PM, and costumes are still encouraged, but not mandatory. Admission for kids is free and adults is $10. Tickets are available at the door, with no presale for these events.

For tickets and everything that you need to know about Space Dive, head over to SpaceDive313.com and make sure you're following them on Instagram too!

Space Dive - The Ultimate Experience for Any Star Wars Fan

Last weekend, Space Dive transported Star Wars fans to Detroitooine for the night! The annual event transforms Tangent Gallery into a setting from a galaxy far far away, making party goers feel like they've walked right onto the set of their favorite Star Wars movie. The mandatory costume policy adds to the effect, making this a truly out of this world experience.

This year Space Dive has expanded the fun to two weekends. So, if you missed out on attending on May 3rd or May the 4th, you still have another chance to attend on May 10th or 11th. On Friday and Saturday night, the party goes from 7 p.m. - 2 a.m. and 21+ are welcome. Tickets are $50 and we highly suggest purchasing yours online here. Costumes are mandatory for the evening events, but don't let that intimidate you! Space Dive has a handy guide on their Instagram that will help you come up with an awesome costume by heading to the thrift store or even by raiding your closet.

If you have kids that are into Star Wars or the $50 ticket price and mandatory costumes are a little much for you, head to Space Dive on Saturday afternoon for their family friendly event. This goes from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., kids are free, and adults are only $10. Costumes aren't mandatory for the daytime event, but are still encouraged.

We had the pleasure of checking out Space Dive for the first time on May the 4th and had an absolute blast! Head over to our Instagram to see more photos and a recap from the night!

Where to Celebrate this May the Fourth

Due to a magnificent play on words, May the 4th has become known as Star Wars Day. For those that aren't into the saga, the unofficial holiday has been established simply because May the fourth sounds a lot like "May the force" a phrase heard throughout Star Wars movies referencing The Force. If you don't know what The Force is, we're pretty surprised that you're even reading this article, but we'll let Obi-Wan explain it to you.

So, now that you're up to speed on why you're seeing all of the Star Wars puns and memes today, here are some other fun ways that you can celebrate Star Wars Day!

Friday evening at 6 p.m. the DIA will be taking a group Star Wars photo. Building up to the opening of their new exhibit “Star Wars™ and the Power of Costume", featuring costumes from the films on display, the DIA is bringing together as many people as possible in their best Star Wars garb for a group photo in front of the DIA. 200 pairs of tickets to the new exhibit will be given away to fans at the photo shoot. The Power of the Costume exhibit opens on May 20th. For more info on the exhibit and the Star Wars Day photo shoot, click here.

Since you will already be all dressed up and Downtown, make sure you head over to the Tangent Gallery which will once again be transformed into Mos Eisley Cantina for Space Dive. This is the fourth year now that the bar has been completely transformed in honor of Star Wars Day and we're not talking about some cheesy decorations. When you walk in, you will feel like you have dived right into the movie. Costumes for this event are mandatory! If you don't already have options to choose from hanging in your closet, here are some last minute costume ideas from StarWars.com. Tickets to Space Dive are $20 or $30 for a booth. The cantina will be open Friday, May 4th and Saturday, May 5th from 8 p.m. 'til 2 a.m. For more info, click here.

If you're into Star Wars, but you don't really feel like going all out, you can also head to B. Nektar where they will be releasing their new 2 Year Reserve called Episode 13. Bottles and shirts will be available. There will also be live music from After Ours and Gus GreenLeaf. For more info, click here.

Last, but not least, if you'd rather just stay in today, TBS Network has a Star Wars marathon going on all day long.

We hope you all have an awesome Star Wars Day! May the 4th be with you!
