Friday, May 19th - Dequindre Cut Freight Yard Opening Night: Summer is almost here and along with it comes outdoor fun! The Dequindre Cut Freight Yard is a hidden gem in Detroit, although some people know about it and love it, others have no idea that it even exists because it's tucked away below street level. Stretching from Eastern Market to the Eastern Riverfront of the Detroit River, the Dequindre Cut is a two mile recreational path that follows along an old rail line for the Grand Trunk Railroad. Along that path, near Eastern Market, you will find the Dequindre Cut Freigh Yard a gathering place featuring a beer garden, pop-up events, and more. For this season's grand opening on Friday night, the Yard will have food from Big Bo's Grill, beer and cocktails from the Dequindre Cut Freight Yard bar, ice cream, bonfires, free s'mores, music, and games and activities for all ages. The fun goes from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Friday, May 19th - Sunday, May 21st - Motor City Comic Con: Metro Detroit is home to some great comic and pop-culture conventions, but the biggest of them all is Motor City Comic Con. This year's con will take place Friday, May 19th - Sunday, May 21st. The event will feature loads of vendors and some of your favorite stars from the big and small screen. Some of the celebrity guests that will be in attendance this year include Christopher Lloyd, Carl Weathers, Tony Danza, and Edward Furlong. Check out the full list of celebrity guests here. Motor City Comic Con takes place at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Tickets start at $30 per day for adults and $10 per day for kids. The hours are noon - 7 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Saturday, May 20th - Back Yard Art Fair: Shop with local artists and makers this Saturday in Ferndale and even into Oak Park at the Back Yar Art Fair. This event will take place in select back yard's throughout the neighborhoods (check out the map here) from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday. Some of the artists participating include Glass Action, Chelsea Kirchoff, Gingerly Made, and Ash & Oak Designs. Check out the full list of artists at backyardartfair.com.
