Kunt-Fu Wants You to Help Them Keep Our Local Bars Safer For All Of Us

Partying, bar hopping, and going to shows is supposed to be fun. But, when you're a woman it can also be scary. We all know how uncomfortable it can be to walk in and out of a bar by yourself, but there are lots of ways that we can all make sure that everyone, including the ladies, makes it home safe.

The first thing that we can do is lookout for each other. If you are at a bar and you see someone having a tense conversation, being taken out of the bar against their will, or about to walk to their car by themselves, take action. Walk them out with your friends, interrupt that tense conversation and say something to someone when you see something weird going on. No one is asking you to be the hero, but there is nothing cooler than caring about the people who live, play and travel around the same circles that you do. You can make a commitment to be a part of a new bar culture where we all really look out for each other.

The second thing that you can do is support a fundraiser to raise money to handout pepper spray in Detroit and Hamtramck that was put together by Anne Cousins and Andrea Bonaventura. Anne and Andrea are two of the amazing bartenders at The Painted Lady in Hamtramck. They both work really hard to create a safe space for their friends and patrons and they want to make sure that more bars around the city are equipped to do the same. For the second time, they have put together a fundraiser with two purposes. First, they want to raise money to buy and distribute pepper spray and then they want to host a few free self-defense classes for anyone that is interested in learning more about how to keep themselves safe as they travel around the city. You can donate any amount to their cause by clicking here. Every dollar helps and this is a great cause.

We all want our friends and family to have a good time when we go out and we all want to get home safe. So, when you're out and about treat everyone like they are your loved ones and we can all make sure that we have fun nights all over town. We are proud to live in a place where people are taking action and looking out for each other.
