Recap of HMF 2018

This past weekend the Hamtramck Music Fest took over the streets and bars of Hamtramck. Now in its fifth year, the festival brought together some of the best local talent and fans that this city has to offer. Every bar was packed, with record numbers attending the event.

We had an absolute blast this weekend, while trying to catch as many acts as we possibly could. Since the lineup was so stacked this year, it was impossible to see everyone that we wanted to, but every band that we saw, blew us away! Highlights from the weekend included, BAVE and White Bee, both at New Dodge, and The Cheetahs at Outer Limits. Speaking of Outer Limits, this was our first time checking out this bar, although it has been on our list of things to do for awhile. We absolutely fell in love with this place! It had an overall cool vibe, awesome decor, and was a great place to see a band play. Plus they serve cans of wine!

Although we didn't snag any footage while we were at Outer Limits, we did manage to get a few videos from Small's and New Dodge while we were out on the town. Check out videos from BAVE, The Dropout, Golden Torso, Bison Machine, and Bogart. The crowds got a bit crazy for some of these shows, so our apologies in advance for being a bit shaky from time to time.

We applaud of the organizers, volunteers, venues and performers for killing it again this year! The whole weekend was a blast and HMF just seems to keep getting better and better. We only wish that we could have made it to every bar and seen every band, but there's always next year!

This Sunday night, Party Store Productions brings Elder to the stage at El Club! The Massachusetts based band just released their latest album over the summer. Reflections of a Floating World is the fourth full length from Elder. You can give it a listen below.

After releasing the new album, Elder headed out on a European tour with King Buffalo. Now the two just kicked off a North American tour earlier this week. Thanks to Party Store Productions, we are also giving away a pair of tickets to this show. If you're feeling lucky and would like to enter to win those tickets, send your name over to hipindetroit@gmail.com with #elder in the subject line. Win Tickets to Bison Machine's Tour Kick off at Small's

The guys in Bison Machine are packing their bags and hitting the road! The band is gearing up for their spring tour that will take them across the US, with stops throughout the Midwest and even into Texas and Colorado. Before they ravage the country, they will be kicking off their tour at Small's this Friday, March 24th.

In case you aren't familiar with Bison Machine, they are four piece stoner rock band from Hamtramck featuring Casey O'Ryan, Breck Crandell, Tom Stec and Anthony Franchina. If you happened to be at the latest installment of Black Christmas, they played upstairs in the Magic Stick and were one of the best bands of the night, in our opinion. The band currently has a new album in the works, but in the meantime check out their album Hoarfrost below and their other releases on bandcamp here.

It's only $10 to get in to the tour kick off show on Friday night at Small's. Joining Bison Machine on the bill is Cloud Catcher from Denver, Wild Savages, Anguish and Grand Mammoth from Ohio. There will also be DJ sets throughout the night from Heavy and Beyond. If you'd rather save that $10 for a tall boy and a shot, we are also getting a couple of people into this show for free! To enter to win tickets to this show, send your name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with #BM in the subject line. We will draw one lucky winner on Friday morning and they will get to attend the show with a friend for free.

Doors for this one are set to open at 8 p.m. and 21+ are welcome.

HID- Do you have a favorite Christmas song?
C & A- "Judas Priest - Ram It Down"

HID- What does Black Christmas mean to you?
C & A- "Guarantee of a 3 day bender. But seriously this is our first time playing it and we are stoked to be here this year. See you all Friday!"

Our Recap of The Hamtramck Music Festival Part Deux

This past weekend the streets of Hamtramck were full of people for The Hamtramck Music Festival. The fest is only in its second year, but it already has grown leaps and bounds since last year. There seemed to be more bands, more venues, and definitely more fans involved.

The Hamtramck Music Fest was just like the old Hamtramck Blowout. The main two nights of the event were Friday and Saturday. We tried to run around to as many venues as we could and catch as many bands as we could, but the lineup was stacked full of great bands. So, it was tough to catch everyone.
But, some performances that we did catch over the weekend that stood out were the new band from "Northern Macomb County", Grand Junction, who sound like the '60s, Radio Burns, Axe Ripper, the Detroit Party Marching Band, Ancient Language, The Witches, The Cheetahs, 1592, Bison Machine, and The Amino Acids, who were as awesome as ever. Their set was the perfect way to end this weekend! With so many bands that we love on the bill, it was hard to catch as many new acts as we wanted, but the few that we did were awesome!

The organizers of the event, Ben's Encore, really pulled things together this year. There were several shuttles running between the venues. Friday night I drove from place to place, but since there were more people this year, parking close to venues wasn't always easy. So Saturday, we trekked it on foot and used the shuttles. It was a lot more fun and we were able to catch everyone on our list! Plus, there were handy postcards with the lineup on one side and a map on the other, that I found myself checking more than a couple of times over the weekend.

Pretty much every bar we went into or passed by was packed. It was great to run around the streets of Hamtramck for the weekend are we are thrilled that this festival will encourage people to do this year after year again. Props to Ben's Encore for putting on an awesome event! Make sure you head over to our Facebook page and Instagram to see more pictures from the weekend!

If you like heavy music played very loudly then you need to check out Beast in the Field at Small's this Saturday, January 25th. Small's is known for its great sound system so the two will make a perfect pair for the listeners. Check out a sample of their music here.

Against The Grain Halloween Party!!!

Small's bar in Hamtramck is throwing a Halloween party on October 26th. One of our favorite bands, Against The Grain, is headlining the show along with Bison Machine, Temple of Void, and Borrowed Time. But, the lineup isn't even the best part about this show. There is also a costume contest taking place with a killer prize. The winner of this contest will have free admittance to any shows at Small's for the next year!
The show starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday and it's $7 for those over 21 and $10 for 18-21. This is worth ruining a dress with some fake blood or investing a little money in a good costume! Good luck!
