Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: April 12-14

We've already told you about Record Store Day, Detroit X Detroit, and the We Came As Romans show, but there are some other awesome events happening around town this weekend! Check out our top picks for this weekend:

Friday, April 12th - Suck It Suicide Comedy Benefit @ Small's: For years now, Ray & Laura (formerly of Ray & Laura's Comedy Showcase) have been throwing an annual benefit show with proceeds going to Suck It Suicide. This organization does amazing work in the community, helping people that lost someone to suicide. In addition to the hilarious comedians, there are also always great raffle prizes! Doors to Small's will open at 8 p.m., the show starts at 9:30 p.m. and cover is a suggested donation of $10 (you can give more if you feel so inclined). Friday, April 12th - Bars of Gold Release Show @ The Loving Touch: Bars of Gold are definitely one of the most entertaining, energetic, and talented bands that Detroit has to offer! This Friday night, they are celebrating the release of their new record SHELTERS. The release party is happening at The Loving Touch and Teener and Bastardous will be joining them for the evening. With that lineup, we guarantee that this will be a great show! Cover is $12 and doors are at 7 p.m.
Saturday, April 13th - Second Saturdays 16 w/ James Linck and Ladysse: Second Saturdays is a monthly event put on by the Sound & Silence crew at POP+Offworld. This event brings great music to this already awesome barcade. For this installment, the lineup will feature none other than James Linck along with the talented Ladysse. Also providing tunes for the night are Eddie Logix and DJ Beige. Cover for this show is free, but make sure you bring some quarters for the arcade games!

Sunday, April 14th - Say Cheese Fest Detroit @ The Belle Isle Boat House: Who doesn't love cheese? This Sunday afternoon, Detroiters will come together to celebrate their love of cheese at the Belle Isle Boat House. There will be all sorts of cheeses available, hard cheese, soft cheese, grilled cheese, and mac & cheese. It definitely sounds like a delicious event! Tickets for Say Cheese Fest start at $30 and can be purchased in advance here.

Freep Film Festival - All Weekend: Now in its sixth year, the Freep Film Festival takes over 10 venues in town to show dozens of films, with subjects ranging from music to cultural issues. Films are shown at The Redford Theatre, The Fillmore, Ant Hall and more. See a full list of films, venues, showtimes and purchase tickets at FreepFilmFestival.com.
