The three day festival will feature a carnival, fireworks, food, live music and more. Admission is free, but you should plan to pay for parking (sounds like about $10). That's a pretty good deal considering the lineup is pretty great all weekend! The Verve Pipe headlines on Friday, Kylie Morgan on Sunday, but the best day to us is Saturday with Handgrenades opening up for The All American Rejects! Handgrenades hit the stage for the first time in over a year at 7 p.m., followed by The All American Rejects at 8:45 p.m. Check out the full lineup for the weekend here. Dearborn Homecoming takes place at Ford Field in Dearborn.

Saturday, August 3rd - Return of the Start: A Celebration of Star Wars Fandom @ Norwest Gallery: Head to Norwest Gallery this Saturday for an exhibit that is out of this world! The show will feature Star Wars inspired art from over a dozen artists, including John Dunivant (SpaceDive/Theatre Bizarre). Attendees are encouraged to come in costume to add to the experience, and if you do you'll even save a few bucks. Tickets are $10 with a costume and $20 without. Get yours here. The show goes from 6-9 p.m.

Saturday, August 3rd - The Boreouts @ Outer Limits: The Rovers Vintage Scooter Club will be taking over Outer Limits Lounge this Saturday night for a fun night with The Boreouts! The show is part of the Motor City Shakedown 20, a rally for vintage scooter enthusiasts! If you're going to the Shakedown, admission is free with a bracelet. If not, cover is $10. Expect a night of great music and lots of cute scooters! Things kick off at 8 p.m.

Saturday, August 3rd & Sunday, August 4th - Webcomicon @ The Rust Belt: Meet the creators of some of your favorite online comics at the Webcomicon! It's happening this Saturday and Sunday at The Rust Belt Market in Ferndale. Some of the artists in attendance include Detroit's own Nick Seluk (The Awkward Yet/Heart & Brain), Sarah Andersen (Sarah's Scribbles), and Brian Gordon (Fowl Language Comics). Check out the full list of who will be there here. Tickets are $20 at the door on Saturday and $10 for kids. Then on Sunday, adults are still $20, but kids and students with an ID get in free. Support Six Feet Over at A State of Inspiration

Suicide is hard to talk about. It is sad, hard to deal with and has effected more of us than we want to admit. It is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States taking the lives of 44,965 Americans each year. In the US, someone dies by suicide every 12 minutes. Nearly 800,000 people die by suicide in the world each year, which is roughly one death every 40 seconds. The suicide rate has increased by double over the last twenty years and right now it shows no signs of stopping. This means that we have to do something. We have to break the stigma around suicide and start talking about it. Something that the crew over at Six Feet Over is able to do flawlessly wherever they are.

We have watched SFU aka Suck it Suicide pop up at every event this year to talk to the community and get them engaged. They always have a gathering of people around their table because they are great people who love to talk, share their stories, and talk about how hard life can be. They aren't afraid to jump right in and make sure that everyone has the resources that they need to take care of themselves and the people that they love and they are doing this by reaching groups of people that no one else has been able to reach. One of the reasons they are so successful is that they aren't afraid to get into it. They post up at events like Dally in the Alley and DIY and talk to people. They aren't the type of organization that puts up a mission statement, collects some donations, and pays the rent. They are out there making a difference at 11 p.m. on a hot Summer weekend when people need someone to talk to. Their commitment is inspiring, their hands-on approach is actually making a difference, and their hard work is more necessary than ever.

Six Feet Over is hosting an unforgettable evening on December 6th to celebrate all that they have done while raising money for everything else they still want to accomplish. They are hosting a walking dinner and #localshopping experience at The Rust Belt Market that will invite photos experiences raffles and more. You can learn more about their benefit and buy tickets to attend the party here. You can learn more about Six Feet Over here and you can donate any amount that you can spare to help them by clicking here. No one wants to lose someone to suicide so let's open up the conversation and support this great group so that we can keep the information flowing to prevent anyone from feeling alone in the dark times.

Hanukkah has come and gone and Christmas is less than 15 days away.  You are running out of time to get everyone on your list a gift, but you are not out of luck. Or, you can skip the running around and hit up The Rust Belt Market this weekend to try to find everything in one place!

They also have a full bar that has a great coffee selection and a cookie stand that features everything you can dream of, including vegan options. You can actually grab a beer and walk around while you shop if you want to! It is always a great place to find a gift, but they are stepping it up even more for the last two weekends of the holiday season.

Find Something for Everyone at The Rust Belt this Holiday Season

The Rust Belt Market is one of the coolest spaces in Metro Detroit. The former Old Navy Outlet turned into artisan heaven is unlike any other shopping experience around. There are 40+ vendors that are permanently located inside the building alongside a full bar, 2 pop-up spaces that change out every weekend, and an event space that hosts lots of interesting vendors and shows throughout the year.

There is also something for everyone inside the market. If you need a gift or just want to walk around and find something cool for yourself, you will. With so many vendors catering to so many different types of aesthetics, there is truly something for everyone. We highly suggest stopping in over the holiday season and seeing how many gifts you can get in one loop. We went by last week and started off our shopping by picking up a few locally made items for the neat and dear on our list. We took some photos of what we found to entice you, but we also wanted to let you know that THIS WEEKEND is the ideal time to stop by because this Saturday they will also be hosting a pin, sticker, and patch convention inside their space.

PinzuCon is returning to The Rust Belt for the second time and we cannot recommend it enough! We went by the first time around and left with a fist full of new buttons for all of our jackets and bags. If you love little pieces of swag as much as we do YOU WILL LOVE THIS SHOW! You can find all the details about the show here and you can stop by to shop The Rust Belt from noon until 7 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday (special hours), and 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The Fall Vintage Fashion Market Takes Place this Weekend in Ferndale

I love vintage clothing, jewelry, and accessories. When I get my hands on the perfect piece, I obsess over it for months. But, I feel like it's getting harder and harder to find that must have item at a lot of these so called trunk shows and vintage markets around town. First of all, a lot of them barely have any vintage items, and when they do, they are a lot of items that anyone could thrift from a good local shop. So it's hard to justify coming out and going through the racks. But, I can assure you that the Fall Ferndale Vintage Fashion Market taking place at The Rust Belt Market will be a treasure chest of unique finds for anyone that wants to make the trip out to see what they can find.

The three day long market will take place inside The Rust Belt Market during the DIY Street Fair and The Funky Ferndale Art Fair. The show will feature around 20 unique collectors who take vintage seriously. When they unload their trunks, the entire event space will be taken over with beautiful vintage finds that are looking for a new place to call home. The last time that they came to town, we were blown away by the selection and the sizes. There truly was something for everyone and even if you couldn't fit into something, there were lots of beautiful pieces that were fun to look at and experience in person.

The Vintage Market will be free to shop from Noon until 9 on Friday, 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday. You can also pay $2 to come by the show from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Don't forget! There are 40+ vendors to check out inside The Rust Belt Market and their indoor and outdoor bars will be open this weekend with an Urbanrest Brewing Company event at the outdoor bar at Noon on Saturday!

PinzuCon Comes to Ferndale

Pins, stickers, and patches are staples of the punk rock counter culture. Rockers love to adorn their leather jackets with pins, their guitars, bass and drum cases with stickers, and their jean jackets or vests with patches. It's a fun way to represent the bands that you love and the causes that you care about without spending an arm and a leg on merch. It is also a fun way for artists to connect their work with people. Some people paint canvases, some people paint walls, and some people get enamel pins made of their characters and drawings, and those people are hosting a convention at The Rust Belt called PinzuCon to celebrate the art of pins, patches, stickers and more!

Pin conventions have become huge on the West Coast, but they are just making their way over to this side of the country. In fact, PinzuCon will be the first of its kind in Michigan. This one day only event will feature pins, patches, and stickers from artists all over the country. There will be 20+ vendors on hand as well as the normal 40+ vendors that are normally at the market. This will include Detroit legend Glenn Barr, who will be releasing his first ever pin at the event!

The festival will be held inside The Rust Belt on Saturday, July 21st from noon until 9 p.m. It is free for all to attend and there will be kid friendly activities for all to enjoy. This will include a make your own pin station where for a very small fee kids can color and press their own pin to take home. There will be an hour long sneak peek of the show from 11 a.m. until noon on Saturday. If you would like a chance to get in early and receive a limited edition PinzuCon pin, you can purchase preview tickets to the event for $19 at the door the day of the event.  Glenn will also be there from 11 until 1 to say hello if you would like to meet the legend in person.

Rust Belt to Open New Patio Bar this Weekend

The Rust Belt Market in Ferndale is a destination that offers up a unique experience you can't find anywhere else. The market hosts around 40 "permanent" vendors and a few pop-ups every weekend throughout the year. They also have an in-house bar and an event space that they use for weddings, corporate events, festivals and pop-up shows throughout the year. The Rust Belt has helped tons of local businesses grow into big companies and has become a fixture at the corner of 9 Mile and Woodward where they reside. But, this weekend they are taking it to the next level and making a whole new mark in the City of Ferndale.

This weekend they will be celebrating Pride Weekend by debuting their new outdoor patio and bar that is located at the corner of Woodward and Nine Mile. The new space features tons of outdoor seating, with custom outdoor cushions, and a bar that will offer up a few cold drinks on tap. You will be able to sit outside on the patio, order a drink, and sit and enjoy it out in the sun surrounded by flowers and plants from Lady Lazarus, which is located in the market.

The Rust Belt is open from 12 to 7 on Friday, 11 until 7 on Saturday and 11 until 6 on Sunday. This will be the first official weekend that you can check out the bar and patio and have a drink, but it will be open all summer long. So, if you cant make it out this weekend, make sure you stop by this summer and check it out! To keep up with all of the cool events and pop-ups at the market this summer, follow them on Instagram here.

Did you know that Ferndale has its own radio station? The hyper-local channel broadcasts from The Rust Belt Market and can be heard by turning your dial to 100.7 FM when you are inside the listening area. The station features local, underground, and indie music as well local news and information. This publicly funded project was founded by Michelle Mirowski and Dave Philips, and has quickly drawn a loyal pack of local listeners. They are currently broadcasting from The Rust Belt Market while it's open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Then, they play syndicated shows and music throughout the week.
Ferndale Radio has a solid base, but are currently looking for some new DJs to come bring some new life to their weekend broadcasts. So, if you are interested in skipping the podcast and bringing it back to the airwaves instead, send them an email and tell them why you would be the perfect person to start your own show on Ferndale radio. You can reach them at ferndaleradio@gmail.com. The station is also looking for funding to ensure that they can stay on for the year next year. So, if you're not interested in being on the air, but want to make sure that someone is, please donate to help keep them up and running!
