The Idiot Kids are More than Just Some Idiot Kids

Photo borrowed from The Idiot Kids' Facebook Page
This Saturday, June 25th The Idiot Kids will be playing at UFO Factory. We've told you about The Idiot Kids a few times before. Its a three piece featuring Nicholas Zambeck on bass, Ryan Chlebek on drums and Jon-Mikel Bartee on vocals and guitar. They're known for their live shows and play music that crosses genres from garage to punk. Take a listen for yourself here.

Although The Idiot Kids have been around for quite awhile, over the past year or two they have really been making a name for themselves in the Detroit scene. We wanted to catch up with these three crazy kids and get to know more about the band first hand. Check out what they had to say.

If you want to see The Idiot Kids for yourself and see what Jon-Mikel has up his sleeve this time, make sure you head to UFO Factory this weekend! There they will be playing with Characteristics, Flowers Bloom and one of our long time favorites, The ILL Itches. Admission to the show is only $6 and doors are set to open at 9 p.m. We are also getting some people into this show for free! If you would like to see The Idiot Kids and their friends this Saturday night, please send your name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with #IdiotKids in the subject line. We are giving away 2 pairs of tickets to this show and will draw our 2 winners on Saturday morning. Good luck!

White Bee & Characteristics Double Cassette Release

We love finding new bands to follow and we are always on the lookout for the newest and latest thing. This week we were introduced to White Bee, a four piece self described "neo-soul" band from Detroit. We checked out a few songs from their EP and were intrigued by their sound.

They will be releasing that EP on cassette at Elijah's (9536 Joseph Campau in Hamtramck) on August 21st alongside Characteristics who are also releasing a cassette that night. Ancient Language and Lipstick Marquee will also be performing. It's only $5 to get in to the show and the fun starts at 9 p.m. this Friday.

We are always looking for new music so don't be afraid to send it over (hipindetroit@gmail.com).  Shout out to White Bee for turning us on to their solid sounds.

JoyCut is a 3 piece featuring two drummers and "a guy on machines." The band has been described as sounding like, "A future where robots and humans share organic meals and feelings of hope."
