Win Tickets to See Flowers Bloom's Last Show for Awhile

The Painted Lady in Hamtramck has always been a bar that you're pretty much guaranteed to have a good time at. From the pink walls to the strong drinks, it's hard to not enjoy this place. The awesome bartenders make this place even better. And if those three things aren't reason enough to get you in the door, a good show will definitely get you there!

This Friday, September 30th The Painted Lady is having one of those shows. Flowers Bloom and Blakdog will be hitting the stage along with Garbage Greek from Ohio. These are three great bands, which should be reason enough to head to the show, but this will also be Flowers Bloom's last show for a while. Front man Miles Hubbell (who you might also know from The Vonneguts) is heading to Guatemala to work for the Guatemala Solidarity Project. So make sure you head out and wish him well on his travels before he heads off to do good in Guatemala.

Admission to Friday's show is only $5 and things are set to kick off at 9 p.m. If you want to save that $5 for a drink, you can also enter to win a pair of tickets to this show. We will be giving away a pair of tickets to 3 lucky winners this Friday morning. To enter to win, just send your name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with Bloom in the subject line. We will draw our winners the morning of the show and they will get to attend this awesome show with a friend for free.

Take a few minutes to get ready for Friday night with this music video from Flowers Bloom for their song "Yeah They Told Me".

The Idiot Kids are More than Just Some Idiot Kids

Photo borrowed from The Idiot Kids' Facebook Page
This Saturday, June 25th The Idiot Kids will be playing at UFO Factory. We've told you about The Idiot Kids a few times before. Its a three piece featuring Nicholas Zambeck on bass, Ryan Chlebek on drums and Jon-Mikel Bartee on vocals and guitar. They're known for their live shows and play music that crosses genres from garage to punk. Take a listen for yourself here.

Although The Idiot Kids have been around for quite awhile, over the past year or two they have really been making a name for themselves in the Detroit scene. We wanted to catch up with these three crazy kids and get to know more about the band first hand. Check out what they had to say.

If you want to see The Idiot Kids for yourself and see what Jon-Mikel has up his sleeve this time, make sure you head to UFO Factory this weekend! There they will be playing with Characteristics, Flowers Bloom and one of our long time favorites, The ILL Itches. Admission to the show is only $6 and doors are set to open at 9 p.m. We are also getting some people into this show for free! If you would like to see The Idiot Kids and their friends this Saturday night, please send your name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with #IdiotKids in the subject line. We are giving away 2 pairs of tickets to this show and will draw our 2 winners on Saturday morning. Good luck!

Another Great Free Show Tonight at Kelly's

If you're looking for a fun FREE night out tonight, head down to Hamtramck to Kelly's Bar. Tonight they are hosting one of their free shows and Timmy from Human Eye and Timmy's Organism will be serving up tacos throughout the night. Just as with most shows at Kelly's, the lineup is pretty awesome. It features Minihorse, Brass Bed and Flowers Bloom.

Minihorse is the newest project from Ben Collins of Lightning Love. This time around he has teamed up with Christian Anderson and John Fossum. Check out this new music video that the band released for their song "FYea" and hear more of their tunes here.

Brass Bed is a Psych Pop band on tour from LA. They just released a new album a couple of weeks ago and had a track from that album featured on NPR. Listen to that song "Be Anything" off of their album In The Yellow Leaf here

And last but not least is Flowers Bloom. This trio kicks out genuine '60s and '70s garage rock. You can take a listen to some of their music here.

As we mentioned, admission to tonight's show is free. 21+ are welcome to attend and things will get started at 9 p.m. Kelly's Bar is located at 2403 Holbrook. For more info, click here
