Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: January 14-16

We already told you about Fleatroit Junk City's take over at The Garden Bowl. Here are some other fun things happening this weekend!

Friday & Saturday, January 14th & 15th - Tributes to Betty White & Sidney Poitier @ The Redford Theatre: 2022 has just begun and the world has already lost some legendary stars. This weekend, The Redford Theatre will pay tribute to the late great Betty White and Sidney Poitier. Friday night, they will be screening The Proposal (2009) with Betty White. Saturday, they will screen To Sir, With Love (1967) starring Sidney Poitier. Each film will begin at 8 p.m. and tickets are $5. To purchase tickets in advance, head to RedfordTheatre.com

Friday, January 14th - Retro Pop- A Totally 80's Dance Party @ Small's: Dance the night away to your favorite 80s pop songs, with some new wave, dance and electronic mixed in too. DJs Pleasure Kitten, Aaron Hingst and Pinknoise will be supplying the tunes for the evening. Cover is $5 for 21+ and $10 for 18-20. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test from within 48 hours is required for entry. The party starts at 9 p.m.!

Friday, January 14th - John Salvage @ Ghost Light w/ Jackamo and Drew Joseph: John Salvage, Jackamo, and Drew Joseph play the Ghost Light in Hamtramck Friday night. 21+ are welcome and the music starts at 9 p.m. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test is required for entry. Saturday, January 15th - The Hourlies @ Ghost Light w/ Vulgars and Goods: Ghost Light has another good show lined up for Saturday night. This time, it's The Hourlies with Vulgars and Goods. Cover is $5. Doors open at 8 p.m. and music starts and 10. Proof of vaccination is required. 

Friday, January 14th - Sunday, January 16th - Fire & Ice @ Valade Park: Take some time for winter fun at Valade Park on the Riverfront this weekend! This event will feature ice carving, live music, LARP, bonfires, food and more. There will even be a 7 foot ice sculpture that will encase a bonfire! Sounds pretty crazy!
