Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: December 17-19

Friday, December 17th & Saturday, December 18th - White Christmas @ The Redford Theatre: It's the weekend before Christmas and there's no better way to get in the spirit than to head to The Redford Theatre for White Christmas. The classic film will have three showings at the theatre this weekend, Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Saturday at 8 p.m. The Redford truly is a magical place to see a movie, especially during the holidays. Make sure you get there early to hear Christmas tunes on the organ and to check out the Christmas village in front of the stage. Tickets are only $5 and can be purchased in advance here.

Saturday, December 18th - Gremlins @ The Senate Theater: Across town, the Senate Theater is playing another movie that is a Christmas classic in it's own right. Gremlins will be showing on Saturday night at 8 p.m. Get ready for the holidays at your favorite historic independent theater watching one of your favorite movies from the '80s! Tickets are only $6 and can be purchased online here

Sunday, December 19th - Home Alone @ the Monroe Street Drive-In: We promise, this is our last Christmas movie on the list for this weekend! Watch Home Alone from the comfort of your own car under the city lights at the Monroe Street Drive-In this Sunday. Tickets are $20 per car and they're going fast! Purchase yours here

Friday, December 17th - Mutationfest @ Ant Hall: If you're not in the mood to go to watch a holiday movie this weekend, maybe you'd rather check out Mutationfest at Ant Hall? This fest features bands that are on the first Mutations from the Motor City LP and some that will be on the next one as well. The show starts at 7 p.m. and proof of vaccination is required.

Friday, December 17th - Home for the Holidaze @ PJ's Lager House: Listen to some of your favorite singer/songwriters from Detroit this Friday night at PJ's. This annual event "brings together local performers for an evening of acoustic music for a good cause". Proceeds from the show will go towards helping homeless people and animals in the community. Cover is $8 or $7 with donation of a canned good or winter clothing item. Doors open at 8 and the music starts at 9. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test from within 48 hours is required for entry.

Sunday, December 19th - Holiday Markets with Fleatroit Junk City @ Outer Limits Lounge: Pick up some vintage holiday decorations or some gifts this Sunday at Outer Limits Lounge. Fleatroit Junk City will be holding a holiday market for all of your shopping needs. Whether you need a new outfit for Christmas or a gift for that hard to please person, you just might find it here. There will also be food and of course there will be drinks. The fun goes from noon 'til 6 p.m.

Sunday, December 19th - Go GangBusters fro Gregg @ The Garden Bowl: If you've ever been to the Garden Bowl or Magic Stick, you know Gregg. He is the tall, pleasant gentleman, with a deep voice and the best laugh, that checks your ID and if you're lucky, greets you with a hug and a smile. He is having some health issues and can use some help from his community, so a bunch of his friends have put together a fundraiser this Sunday at the Garden Bowl. There will be bingo, pizza, bands, and tunes supplied by Haute to Death. The fun starts at 4 p.m. and goes until midnight. There is a suggested donation of $20 at the door.
