Watch Detroit's Tree Lighting from Home Tonight

Photo from Downtown Detroit Parks' Website

This year, instead of tons of people gathering at Campus Martius for Detroit's Tree Lighting Ceremony, people are being asked to watch it from the comfort of their own home. The tree lighting ceremony will air on WXYZ Channel 7 beginning at 7:30 p.m. and will feature an even more star studded cast than usual. There will be a performance from Smokey Robinson, an appearance by Tim Allen, ice dancing duo Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko, and Santa himself will be flipping the switch to light the tree. Most of the program was pre-recorded, so there's no reason to rush downtown to see Smokey Robinson perform at Campus Martius, he won't be there.

Just because you can't head downtown for the tree lighting, doesn't mean that you can't make the night special. Order carryout from your favorite local restaurant, pick up cocktails to go from your favorite bar, or a growler from a brewery. Then, put on something festive and kick back and enjoy. It's up to you if that festive attire is pajamas or something more formal.

In addition to being on TV, Detroit's Tree Lighting Ceremony will also be on WXYZ's Facebook page. Just click here to watch. Happy Holidays!
