Show Review: The Killers @ The Masonic Temple

Monday night, The Killers played to a packed house at The Detroit Masonic Temple. The band kicked the night off with their single "Run for Cover" off their latest release Wonderful, Wonderful. Visuals from the music video projected on the screen behind them, showing fans, this wasn't going to be just a basic rock show. Instead, the performance was accompanied by lasers, lights, a giant screen, and a trio of female backup singers, making for more of an arena experience inside the walls of this historic venue. After kicking things off with a new one, The Killers then played a string of their older radio hits, as well as a ton of songs off Sam's Town, their 2006 release, still one of their most popular albums to date.
For fans old and new, this was an excellent show from start to finish. The Killers were full of energy and promised the crowd that they would try their best to put on an awesome rock show, and that they did. The band blended their newer hits, like "The Man" in with old favorites, rather than splitting the show up between old and new, or making fans wait until the end of the show to hear the big songs. To round the night off, this band played a true encore, leaving fans cheering for minutes straight before reappearing on stage. The encore set is something that has become entirely to predictable at shows over the years, with many bands stepping to the side of the stage for mere seconds before coming out for a few more songs. The Killers made sure that their fans showed that they wanted to hear more, and the fans weren't going anywhere until that happened. The night ended with one of the band's most popular songs, "Mr. Brightside", which still holds up as a great song 14 years later.

It had been a while since The Killers played in Detroit proper, but next time they come to town, their show is definitely worth checking out. In the mean time, check out their new album Wonderful Wonderful and while you're at it, revisit a few of the band's old favorites below.
