POP + Offworld Bring and Arcade to Downtown Detroit

We found your new favorite bar in Detroit! We know, that's a pretty bold statement, but we mean it. POP and Offworld Arcade have joined forces to open up shop above Checker Bar downtown. The bar features pizza, drinks, and Offworld Arcade's specialty, old school arcade games.
We had a chance to get a sneak peak of the new space before it officially opens up to the public this Friday. When you first go up the stairs, you notice the amazing decor, featuring a mural and bar top painted by the amazingly talented Michelle Tanguay. There are lights strung across the ceiling, huge open windows overlooking the city, and some booths and community tables, in addition to bar seating. There's also a small stage, and on this particular night we were entertained by a DJ from Hello Records. In addition to the great ambiance is the feature that makes this place stand out above others, the arcade. The game area hosts some of your favorite games from when you were a kid, ranging from Ms. Pacman to Mortal Kombat and even Paperboy. There are even some pinball machines on site too!

In addition to being a great place to hang out and play some games, this POP + Offworld combo also makes some great pizza! They offer a wide variety of choices either by the slice or as a whole pie. There are a lot of vegetarian and vegan options in addition to their own twist on classics like pepperoni and meat lovers. We tried The Gringo and the Caper Crusader and both were awesome! Neither of us are vegetarians, but these meatless options were super tasty and out of the ordinary.

If you want to check POP + Offworld out for yourself, their grand opening celebration is this Friday, September 8th from 5 p.m. 'til 2 a.m. The night will feature music from Hello Records DJs and Phaserland, a Bell's tap takeover and a classic console raffle. If you can't make it out this Friday, don't worry. They will be open 7 days a week from here on out. You can find POP + Offworld on the second level of 124 Cadillac Square, above Checker Bar.
