Say Farewell to Ancient Language and The Landmarks this Friday

When we started Hip In Detroit about five years ago we knew that we would learn about a bunch of great bands, restaurants, and hidden gems throughout Detroit. What we didn’t realize is that we would make a ton of new friends through this website. One of those friends is Christopher Jarvis. Over the years we have covered Chris work with Phantasmagoria and then with Ancient Language. We had him DJ at all of our parties, and he has grown to be one of our favorite musicians in Detroit. He is super talented, inventive, and one of the greatest guys around.

This Friday, September 9th Chris will be hitting the stage with Ancient Language at PJ’s Lager House. Unfortunately for all of us, this is the last chance that we have to see this great band for a while. Detroit is losing another awesome person for now, as Christopher is leaving town. So that means, this is the end of Ancient Language, well at least for now. We are so sad to see him go, just as many people in the Detroit music scene will be.

As if this being the last Ancient Language show for a bit isn’t reason enough to head to the Lager House on Friday, this is also The Landmarks last Detroit area show for now. Three of the band members are also hitting the road and heading to Seattle. Hopefully once they hit the scene out there, they will blow up and head back to Detroit on tour soon. They already have recorded with Steve Albini, who has recorded bands like Nirvana, The Pixies and Fugazi. So we think it's safe to say that we'll be hearing more from these guys soon.

In addition to these two amazing bands, Hildegard (New Orleans) and Five Pound Snap are also on Friday's bill. Admission to this great show is only $5 and 18+ are welcome. Since we don’t want you to miss out on this opportunity to see two great Detroit bands one more time, we are also giving away 3 pairs of tickets to this show. If you would like to enter to win a pair of tickets, just send your name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with Farewell in the subject line. We will draw 3 lucky winners on Friday morning and they will get into the show with a friend for free.

We are so sad to see all of this talent leaving Detroit, but we wish Chris and the guys from The Landmarks the best of luck on their new adventures!
