Win Tickets to See Bars of Gold this Sunday!

Some bands are great on an their albums, but not so good in person, and other bands are really great live, but their albums don't do them justice. Bars of Gold is one of those bands that is as good on record as they are live, but in person there is something super magical that cannot be experienced anywhere else. There is something magical that happens when these 5 dudes take the stage. They don't play live as much as they used to and they haven't released any new music recently, but that's what makes seeing them in person even more important. These magical moments that they create aren't as common as they used to be, so don't make the mistake of missing out.

Bars will be performing live at PJ's Lager House alongside Slow Mass and Mover Shaker this Sunday, June 10th. Tickets to attend the show are $8 in advance and they can be purchased here. We also have one pair of tickets to give away to attend the show with a friend courtesy of the JSB Squad.  If you would like to enter to win, please email your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with the subject line #gold. 24 Hour Giveaway: The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die

Fusion Shows is bringing The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die to the Pike Room this Friday, March 24th. The 7 piece self proclaimed emo band is keeping the genre alive. They recently released a new album called Formlessness on Topshelf Records. The band doesn't tour with the same lineup twice, so it's always important to catch them when they come into town. It's also interesting to catch an act that has five different vocalists that all sing during the performance.

TWIABP will be performing with Fred Thomas and Mover Shaker. Tickets to attend the show are $13 and doors for the show open at 7 p.m. on Friday. We also have one pair of tickets to giveaway to the show courtesy of Fusion Shows. If you would like to enter to win please email your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with the subject line #TWIABP.  We will draw one lucky person on Friday morning and they will get to attend the show with a friend for free!

See The Idiot Kids for FREE this Weekend

It seems like the talk of the town for months now has been The Idiot Kids. The three piece, featuring Nicholas Zambeck, Ryan Chlebek and Jon-Mikal Bartee, classifies themselves as garage-punk, and that sound might be the reason why this band has bridged a gap. They have accomplished something that very few bands around here have been able to do, they play shows with the punk bands and they play shows with the indie bands. Although Detroit has an amazing music scene, it's no secret that there are very definitive groups within that scene. It's rare for these groups to mix (unless you're at a Hip In Detroit anniversary show), but The Idiot Kids are crossing those lines. For instance, a few weeks ago they played with Matt Wixson's Flying Circus at their release show and then shortly after they played with YUM and The Erers.

This weekend they are playing with yet another awesome lineup. Friday, April 8th The Idiot Kids will be playing at The Painted Lady with Blakdog, Mover Shaker and Junk Food Junkies. With a lineup like that, we guarantee this will be a super fun show! Make sure you click on each of those bands and have a listen so you know just what we mean! Admission for this great show is only 5 bucks, doors are set to open at 9 p.m and 18+ are welcome. We are also giving away 2 pairs of tickets to this show. If you would like to enter to win, please send your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with The Idiot Kids in the subject line. We will draw 2 lucky winners the morning of the show and they will get in the door with a friend for FREE.

In the meantime, take a listen to The Idiot Kids album Manic below. Make sure you keep these guys on your radar because we're sure you will continue to hear a lot about them!
