Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend - June 3-5

Friday, June 3rd - Carbon Decoy and Caveman & Bam Bam @ Flamingo Vintage: Shop for some new to you clothes for the summer and enjoy sets from Carbon Decoy and Caveman & Bam Bam this Friday night at Flamingo Vintage. All ages are welcome and the fun starts at 7 p.m.

Friday, June 3rd - Bill Kozy's Rising Force @ PJ's Lager House: Bill Kozy's Rising Force hits the stage at PJ's Lager House Friday night! They will be joined by The Strains and Nervous Wreck. Cover is only $10. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the music starts at 9. 

Saturday, June 4th - Ferndale Pride: Pride will be taking over Downtown Ferndale this Saturday for the largest LGBTQAI festival in Oakland County. "Ferndale Pride strives to recognize and promote pride for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, asexual, intersex and ally communities, working with residents, businesses, community groups, and all segments of the community to welcome and promote the celebration of diversity!" The event will feature two stages with live music, including acts like Tunde Olaniran and Valerie the Vulture, as well as drag shows and DJs. There will even be a group wedding at 1:30 p.m.! Ferndale Pride is free to attend and the fun goes from 12:30 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Saturday, June 4th - Food Truck Rally @ Warren City Square: Grab dinner or some snacks from a dozen great food trucks at Warren's Food Truck Rally on Saturday. The rally goes from 4-8 p.m. and is part of an all day event called Warren Wheels. Some of the food trucks that will be at the rally include Motor City Pasty, Detroit House of Mac, and Hearth Wood & Fire Pizza. Admission is free and parking is free. Sunday, June 5th - VegFest @ Eastern Market: After a two year hiatus, VegMichigan's VegFest returns to Eastern Market this weekend! The fest will feature almost 100 vendors in sheds 5 & 6 at Eastern Market, with plant based food, free samples, sustainable shopping, and more. Admission is free. The fest takes place from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Check out the list of vendors and get more info here.

Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend - May 20-22

We already told you about the Backyard Art Fair in Ferndale. Here are some other fun things happening this weekend! 



Friday, May 20th - Will Sessions @ Spot Lite: Will Sessions takes over Spot Lite Detroit this Friday night. The lineup for the night includes Ian Finkelstein, Marcus Elliot, Dez Andres, Amir Edwards, and DJ Sets by AndrĂ©s and Meftah. 21+ are welcome. The party goes from 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.


Friday, May 20th & Saturday, May 21st - Detroit Women of Comedy Festival: Laugh your way through the weekend with some funny ladies at the Detroit Women of Comedy Festival at Planet Ant & The Independent Comedy Club. Tickets can be purchased a la carte for each show or a weekend pass is $67. Check out the full lineup for the weekend and purchase your tickets here


Friday, May 20th & Saturday, May 21st - Detroit Weekend @ The Redford Theatre: The Redford is celebrating Detroit in cinema this weekend with two fan favorites that took place in Detroit. On Friday night, they will be showing Beverly Hills Cop and on Saturday they will show RoboCop. Both shows start at 8 p.m. and tickets are only $5 per show. 


Saturday, May 21st - Zoo Brew @ The Detroit Zoo: Don't let the threat of rain scare you away! Zoo Brew is happening this Saturday evening a the Detroit Zoo! Visit the animals after hours during this 21+ only event, while you sip on some craft brews. Tickets are $50 which includes admission and 10 tasting tickets. Additional tasting tickets are available for $5/three tickets. There are also designated driver tickets available for $30. You can purchase your tickets online here. The fun starts at 6 p.m. and goes until 10. 


Friday, May 20th - Sunday, May 22nd - St. Joan of Arc Food Truck Festival: It's not very often that we share an event happening at a church, but this event involves lots of great food, so it seems appropriate. St. Joan of Arc in St. Clair Shores is hosting a Food Truck Festival all weekend, with different trucks in attendance each day. Saturday will have the most trucks on site out of the three days, but check out the full breakdown below:

Royal Oak Farmers Market Food Truck Rally

This week Metro Detroit's finest food trucks will gather in Royal Oak and the Royal Oak Farmers Market for the 3rd annual Trolleys, Treasures, and Tunes Food Truck Rally. This free event features food from Rolling Stone Pizza, El Guapo, Mac Shack, Delectabowl, Meanie Weenie, Mito"s Turkish Kitchen, Treat Dreams, Beignets and Sinfully Sweet.
This is a very family friendly event that will also feature face painting, a small pixie shop for children to shop for inexpensive gifts, and a visit from Santa! There will also be a few pop up shops for adults to get some last minute shopping done too! Mark Reitenga will also be performing music throughout the night.
The rally will take place from 5 p.m. 'til 9 p.m. this Wednesday. The Royal Oak Farmers Market is located at 316 East 11 Mile Road.
