Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: August 22nd - 24th, 2025

Friday, August 22nd - Fen Fen Release Show @ Paris Bar: A couple of rad bands have new music out and their coming together to celebrate the releases this Friday night at Paris Bar! Fen Fen has a new LP, In Yer Sights, that you can give a listen and order here. Then, Credit Card has a new 7" out than you can check out here. Also on the bill is Day Residue and Expest! Doors open at 8 PM. 

Friday, August 22nd & Saturday, August 23rd - Surf Fest @ Bowlero: Celebrate summer with surf, punk, exotica & instrumental music at Surf Fest at Bowlero this Friday and Saturday night. Friday, the lineup includes The Volcanos, The Slot Rods, and DJ Silva. And Saturday features Texas Surfboard Massacre, The Hurricane Cyclone Tsunami Typhoons, and  DJ Tony Drake. There will also be tiki drinks on special! As always, admission is free, 18+ are welcome, and things kick off at 9 PM each night. 

Friday, August 22nd & Saturday, August 23rd - Fuzz Fest 10 @ Blind Pig: Take a drive to Ann Arbor this weekend for Fuzz Fest 10 @ the Blind Pig! The 3 day festival kicked off on Thursday night and continues this Friday and Saturday, featuring 11 bands each night, across 2 stages. Some of the bands on the bill include Zzvava, Cherry Drop, Angel of Mars, The Dusty Rose Band, The Lucid Furs, and Pepper & The Heavy Boys. Doors open at 7 PM each night and the music starts at 7:15. Tickets for Friday are $18 + fees and Saturday's tickets are $15 + fees. 18+ are welcome.


Saturday, August 23rd & Sunday, August 24th - Hazel Park Art Fair: The Hazel Park Art Fair brings makers, shoppers, and food trucks together at Green Acres Park this Saturday and Sunday. The event is free to attend and will take place from 11 AM - 7 PM on Saturday and 11 AM - 5 PM on Sunday. In addition to the art, there will also be live performances and demonstrations from Clawson Clay Guild.

Saturday, August 23rd - Palmer Park Band Shell Grand Opening: The historic bandshell from the State Fair Grounds has been rescued and relocated to Palmer Park! This iconic stage has hosted everyone from The Temptations to Alice Cooper and now it will continue to bring the community together for amazing concerts. This Saturday afternoon is the official grand opening for the bandshell in its new home. The day will include sounds from Marcus Elliot and will be hosted by Dwele. There will also be food trucks on site, so you can make a day of it! Admission is free and all are welcome!

Sunday, August 24th - Hospitality Included: Some of the best restaurants in Detroit are coming together for one amazing festival this Sunday! Hospitality Included will bring together 40 restaurants, pop-ups, and bars, DJs, and artists. It's all happening this Sunday from 1 PM - 9 PM at the Detroit Design District at 6545 Oakland Ave. in Detroit. Tickets are only $5 for this one! Plus, this event is featuring community ticketing, which means for every ticket purchased, someone from the community will also get into the festival for free! Get your tickets here
