Hip In Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: July 14-16

We already told you about Detroit Festival of Books & the Save Public Pool Benefit. Here are some other fun things happening this weekend! 

Friday, July 14th - New Monarch @ Small's: Don't miss New Monarch at Small's this Friday night! The band featues Matt Puhy & James Lascu formerly of Wilson, along with Sabastian Duke and Ryan Williams. Head over and give them a listen here. New Monarch will be joined by Pray For Sleep, Avalon Black, and Riding With Killers. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here. All ages are welcome and doors open at 7 p.m.


Saturday, July 15th - Norcos Y Horchata & Frank White *Double Record Release show* @ The Garden Bowl: Two great bands are celebrating the release of their new records this Saturday night! Head to the Garden Bowl to catch Norcos Y Horchata and Frank White. They will be joined by Iron Years from Chicago and Macho. This is a great show that would be worth some dough to check out, but lucky for you, it's free! Doors open at 8 p.m. Give Norcos Y Horchata's new tunes a listen here. Friday, July 14th - Sunday, July 16th - Pig & Whiskey: Pig & Whiskey returns to the streets of Downtown Ferndale this weekend! The event will take place Friday - Sunday and will feature BBQ, booze, and bands. Some of the acts performing include Century Babes, Bad Magnets, Prude Boys, and Brother Elsey. Saturday, July 15th - Detroit Oddities & Curiosities Expo: Get weird at The Detroit Oddities & Curiosities Expo this weekend! The expo will bring strange, unusual, and bizarre goods to the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi this Saturday. Some examples of what you might find at the show include taxidermy, gothic jewelry, horror inspired art, and more. Get a sneak peek of what some of the vendors will have available here. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 the day of the show, kids 12 & under get free admission. The expo is open from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
