Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: June 24-26

Friday, June 24th - Sunday, June 26th - Taco Fest @ Canterbury Village: We already told you about Taco Fest earlier this week, but we left out one important thing... in addition to delicious tacos, there will also be some great live music! There will be lots of acts paying tribute to your favorite Hispanic musicians, but there will also be performances by Laura Mendoza and Norcos y Horchata, among others. Taco Fest is taking place up I-75 at Canterbury Village. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door. Purchase your advance tickets here

Friday, June 24th - DuoFest @ The Sanctuary: There are a lot of great two pieces making music in Detroit and this Friday night 10 of those duos will be performing at The Sanctuary for Duo Fest! The lineup includes Bubak, Ladyship Warship, Witchfist, Dear Darkness, Orc, Ommnus, Minus 9, Bloody Butterflies, Solar Monolith, and End. The bands will be playing on two stages, so the music will keep going once it starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are only $15 and can be purchased here. This isn't the first time that a Duo Fest has happened, but this lineup is way different from Duo Fests of the past! It will definitely be a fun show to check out!

Saturday, June 25th - LiveNoise: Live music will take over the streets of Ferndale this weekend for LiverNoise - a Rogue Porchfest. Bands will be performing live on porches of homes on Withington, Breckenridge, and Cambourne near Livernois. Some of the acts playing include Carjack, The Fruits, Ryan Allen, Ryan Dillaha & Vern, Courtney Hurley & Mike Galbraith, and more. Head to to see the full schedule. Performances will take place between 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. Admission is free, but there will be tip jars on porches. This is not a city sanctioned event, so please be respectful of the neighborhoods and neighbors that live there.

Saturday, June 25th - Midas Record Release Show @ Outer Limits Lounge: This Saturday night, Midas will be taking over Outer Limits to celebrate the release of their first full length album! Death to Tarnished Metal will be available on LP and cassette at the show. Midas will be joined by Shadowland (NYC) and Locust Point. Heavy & Beyond will keep the tunes going between sets. Cover is $10 and doors open at 8 p.m.

Sunday, June 26th - Pride Drag Brunch @ Berkley Common: June is almost over, but there is still time to celebrate Pride! This Sunday, Berkley Common will be hosting a Pride Drag Brunch presented by Slay Events. The brunch will be hosted by Kourtney Charles, with appearances by Bentley James, Infestasia, Emma Sapphire, Katrina Alexis Monae. Tickets are $25 which includes a complimentary cocktail and a donation to Affirmations. For more info, click here

We also have to mention that the Detroit Fireworks will take place on Monday, June 27th. Yeah, we know Monday isn't part of the weekend, but we wanted to give you a heads up. Get more info here.
